What's the weather like in Protaras in May
The weather in Protaras, Cyprus in May is certainly pleasant, with increasingly warm temperatures and balmy nights.
Temperature
The average temperature sits at a bearable 21°C, however the high is around 26°C, so it is certainly T-shirt and shorts weather. May is a very popular time to visit Protaras, before the major crowds and the extreme heat hits, but certainly warm enough to enjoy summer fun and grab a tan in the process.
The evening average temperature is around 15°C, so a light cardigan may be needed if you're heading out to the beach area, as it could get a little chilly.
Sea Temperature
Despite that, day time sea temperatures are certainly very mild indeed, at around 21°C, making May the perfect time to enjoy beach time and water-sports at Fig Tree Bay, or a spot of snorkelling or scuba diving.

Protaras Hotels for May
Basing yourself close to the beach isn't difficult now all of Protaras' hotels are open for business, and the Golden Coast Beach Hotel is a great option to go for, with a health club, and outdoor and indoor pool, and several restaurants to choose from. This particular hotel is also within very easy rich of Agia Triada Beach, for somewhere a little different.
Alternatively, Tsokkos Beach Hotel is the perfect family-friendly hotel, with a kids' club, and entertainment during the evening for your little ones, allowing you to kick back and relax. The large free-form swimming pool is ideal for cooling down in the beautiful May sunshine, and at only 10 minute walk to the resort centre, you won't have far to go. Another family-friendly choice is Cavo Maris Beach Hotel, right on the beach front, with an all-inclusive option, which is a good choice for travelling with kids.
Bars and Restaurants
Protaras has some fantastic bars which are open until the early hours, with plenty of choice when it comes to entertainment, such as the popular Bell's Cocktail Bar, with its countless varieties of cocktails. However, it's worth remembering that when in Protaras, you're a stone's throw in a taxi or the bus from the clubbing mecca of Ayia Napa, and a visit is certainly worth it if you enjoy dancing 'til dawn in one of the huge clubs in the resort.
If you prefer your evenings to be more about a delicious meal and a few drinks however, you're spoilt for choice. Alati by the Sea is a special restaurant indeed, with amazing views, and even more amazing food, closely rivalled by the popular UMI Japanese & Sushi Bar Restaurant, where you can munch on Asian fusion dishes and watch the colourful sunset at the same time. Multi-tasking indeed!
If you prefer your food a little more down to earth, then Olympus is the place to go, with a range of international dishes on offer, and mouth-watering desserts to try.
You could of course go for an evening stroll after your meal, or instead head to The Ranch Bar for fun entertainment and plenty of laughs.
Things to do in Protaras in May
With increasing temperatures, you will need a little more in the way of splash-like fun to cool down, and we already mentioned the range of water-sports on offer at Fig Tree Bay. Parasailing is great fun, and gives you a totally different view-point of the coastline, as well as ticking something off your bucket list. You'll find several water-sports vendors, but Stavros Water-sports is a popular choice for parasailing fun give it a try!
If you prefer to keep your feet firmly on dry land, then how about a gentle stroll along Protaras coastal promenade. You can stop off whenever you fancy a break, as there are plenty of shaded areas to seek solace from the sun, as well as coffee shops and tavernas along the way for a snack or refreshment. You won't need to exert yourself too much on this gentle walk, and it will show you some fantastic views along the way.
Of course, the mild, but not too hot, May weather means it's a good time to get out and about, and nearby Kapparis is certainly worth a visit, with a slow, laid-back pace of life, typically Greek-Cypriot, and plenty of shaded tavernas to enjoy a drink in the afternoon heat. The beach is also very picturesque, with a small cove and water so aquamarine you won't believe your eyes.
