Average sea temperatures for the coastal Atlantic Ocean waters are recorded at 19°C, a little warmer than average ambient air temperatures, but it isn't prime time to be swimming anymore.
Where to Stay
Take advantage of the quiet winter months, and the slightly wetter weather, by booking into a resort that is at the high end of the market, and meets the needs of its guests before they even step foot outside their accommodation. The Pestana Alvor Praia Beach & Golf Hotel does just that, with direct access to the beach, sauna and spa treatments, a Turkish bath, bars, restaurants and of course, access to the golfing facilities. This is a much less crowded area, away from the hub of Praia da Rocha, situated in Alvor, but accessible to the amenities when desired. There are some excellent deals on their website out of season.
A self-catering option that is located just a five-minute walk from the beach is the Mesa e Case Encantada. It offers free Wi-Fi and parking on site. The apartment has one-bedroom, with an extra bed, a fully equipped kitchen and modern decor. It offers greater privacy and independence than other apartment options. It doesn't have a website but can be booked through a number of booking websites.
