What's the weather like in Praia da Luz in August

If you want the epitome of summer weather, with high temperatures, almost zero chance of rain, wall to wall sun, and beach time as standard, then head to Praia da Luz during this time, and find out why so many people flock here for their annual summer holiday.

You can expect the best sea temperature of the year, the most in the way of sunshine hours, and the hottest month overall at this time of year, and one thing is for sure air conditioning is a must do for a good night's rest in your hotel.

Temperature

August falls in the middle of the summer season in Portugal's beach resorts, when temperatures can rise up to a sizzling 26°C during the peak of the afternoon as an average high temperature, dropping down to around 18°C after sunset as an average low. This makes for some pleasant evening walks around the resort, and you certainly won't need a cardigan for nights out. As an average temperature however, the resort falls within the 22°C bracket.

Sunshine Hours

Rainfall is, as in July, almost non-existent, other than the occasional fluke drizzle which will last literally minutes. The statistics speak for themselves, with 2mm of precipitation expected across 2 days of the month; so you can say that the skies are going to be perpetually blue and cloudless, with plenty of sun. Sunshine hours at this time average at around 13 hours per day, the most of the year.

Sea Temperature

If you want to cool down during a long day on the beach, this is warmest time to do just that, with an average sea temperature of 25°C. You will find water-sports, swimming, and many water-based activities on offer at this time of year, with beaches quite crowded; why not head to a more secluded beach to avoid the masses?

Praia da Luz Hotels in August

Beach Apartment

If you're wanting a private villa type of accommodation for your August stay then you will find many in Praia da Luz, as this is a very laid-back resort. A home away from home feel is the best way to feel, literally, at home, and relaxed during your stay. Check out Beach Apartment, which has a large kidney-shaped pool with a continental look to the building. You will be comfortable in a large one bedroomed apartment with all mod cons you could possibly need, and close to the main life in the resort.

Mar da Luz

Alternatively, Mar da Luz is just 0.9 miles away from the nearest beach, offering free Wi-Fi and plenty of parking for your hire car. The kitchen is fully stocked with equipment to help you enjoy your time, and the large outdoor private pool is perfect for the time of year.

Casa Da Praia

If you are travelling with a large group, Casa Da Praia is a great choice. This is a three bedroomed establishment which is suitable for up to six people, just 200m from the nearest beach. The apartment is also kitted out with a washing machine, which is a major plus point!

Praia da Luz Beaches for August

Batata Beach

Nearby Praia do Batata Beach is a great place to escape during the peak months, to get away from the crowds on the main beach in the resort. This is also known as potato beach, for reasons unknown!

This small beach has the quirk of having a small fort at its entrance, and you have to walk down a few steps to reach the sand. You can also choose to walk along the cliff walkway to get a truly amazing view. The beach has sunloungers and parasols, however it is quite quiet, which is the ideal form of escapism.

Bars and Restaurants

A Concha

For a snack with a stunning view, head upstairs at A Concha for an ocean vista. The baguettes here are very highly recommended, which make for a great snack or an early evening meal if you're not so hungry having said that, the portions are rather large!

Arteburgeur

We know that Portugal is famous for piri piri chicken and for some of the best head to Arteburgeur. This particular café/restaurant has that famous continental pavement café feel, with iconic red parasols and a white building, with the blue of the ocean in the short distance. The food here is literally delicious.

Pizzeria Delicia

At the end of the day however, sometimes we all just fancy a good pizza, and if you're feeling the need for a delicious slice, head to Pizzeria Delicia. You can choose to eat in or takeaway, and the selection of toppings is huge.

Things to do in Praia da Luz in August

The Fatacil Fair

With so many events and celebrations during summer, there is always something going on in August in Praia da Luz. The Fatacil fair in nearby Lagos is one of the biggest and best events of the whole year, when the region comes alive with fairs, entertainment and food. The Fatacil fair celebrates a huge range of subjects--including handicrafts, agriculture, tourism and business--with evening entertainment, horse shows and food tasting.

Blue Ocean Divers

August is a fantastic time to work on your tan at the coast in Praia da Luz, a perfect example of a beautiful Algarve beach. Here you can enjoy a great selection of watersports, including surfing and scuba diving with Blue Ocean Divers. Unfortunately, the resort's main beach does get very busy during summer, so you'll need to get there early to get a good spot.

Aqualand

If the heat gets a bit much for you, cool off at the Aqualand water park in Alcantarilha. Here you'll find a great selection of adrenaline-pumping slides, relaxing lazy rivers and special children's play areas. So take the whole family and make a day-trip out of it!
