Sunshine Hours

The days keep up to 7 hours of sunshine which is a dip but the chances of sunny days stay well at 39% on average.

Rainfall

Rainfall volume however doesn't exceed 60mm, and chances of rainy days rise to 27%, spread over a total of 10 days.

Clouds

Chances of cloudy days stay low at 10% on average, leaving plenty of room for people to bask in the sun and enjoy the last few weeks of holiday before plunging into autumn.

Wind

The winds barely shift from their southern and southeastern influences, with average speeds of 4m/s, and chances of windy days stay at 6%, not making it easy on any surfers looking to ride some waves on the northern part of the Atlantic coastline.

Sea Temperature

The North Atlantic Ocean keeps its waters friendly and great for swimming, at an average temperature of 18°C (65°F), which is not too warm but great if your purpose is to cool off between those long sunbathing sessions. It's also excellent for paddle boarding and any other water sports, just don't forget to pack some SPF protection, as there is still a minor risk of sun burns if you're not careful. Make sure you try Porto in September, when the summer simply refuses to leave and gives vacationers one last chance to enjoy a holiday by the Portuguese seaside.

Things to Do in Porto in September

September is quite a good time to take in all the scenery from the surrounding parts of Porto, its dramatic hillsides perfect for long bike rides and even trekking expeditions. The weather is perfect for picnics on the rockier parts of the coastline as well, and you also always have the option of incorporating a wine tasting into your daily schedule in beautiful Oporto.

Se Cathedral

You certainly have to see the stunning Sé Cathedral, a splendid Romanesque cathedral built in the early 12th century, and constantly hailed by the Tripeiros as one of their city's most precious jewels. Its façade resembles that of a fortress, but its interior is absolutely breath taking, with mindboggling detail in every single piece of religious art mounted in here. Another must see is the beautiful Sao Bento Station, designed with superb glazed tile artwork all over the walls. It was named after an old Benedictine monastery once built on this very spot, and to this day it has remained one of Porto's postcard buildings.
