Porec is a Croatian town on the western coast of Istrian peninsula. It has a shoreline of approximately 37 kilometres.

Since 1970, Porec has been considered the most prestigious holiday destination in Croatia.

It is a great vacation destination if you are looking for a quiet place to enjoy cultural diversity and its rich history. Many classical music, jazz tunes and folk evenings are celebrated here.

Its location is also very near to some of the most famous cities in Italy, Austria, Croatia and Slovenia which makes it a great jumping off point for other holiday destinations.

Porec has many attractions for ancient history lovers, with plenty to remind its visitors of its Roman history.

Weekend holidays in Porec are very popular and a short weekend holiday here will give visitors an opportunity to see nearly everything that Porec has to offer.

The Main Holiday Season in Porec

The best time of the year to visit Porec is from July to September as these are the warmest and driest months of the year.

During these months, the temperature is usually a steady 30°C with nearly 10 hours of sunshine per day which makes walking around the city quite comfortable. During this period, the sea water is also very warm averaging as high as 28°C.

Winter time in Porec can be extremely cold and there arenât many tourists in the area during those months.

Many holiday visitors who want to stay away from the overcrowded cities will enjoy Porec.

This town has lots of historically significant sites located within and all around it.  

The Euphrasian Basilica that dates back to the 6th century for one was listed as a World Heritage back in 1997.

The cave of Baredine is an amazing sight not to be missed. It has an underground river as well as several chambers that are beautifully decorated. Its cliff of 173 stair steps head to the chapel of St. Nicholas; the panoramic view of the city and ocean make it well worth the climb.

Aside from the amazing coastline with great lagoons and coves to explore, sight-seeing is one of the townâs is main attractions. Museums and galleries with ancient Roman structures are on the list of the must-sees.

Sailing in Porec is also very affordable and safe. Water sports like wind surfing and jet skiing are very popular, as well. There are underwater explorations and diving sites to go to that are starting to attract a younger crowd, too.

Beaches in Porec
 

Porec has the cleanest beaches in Europe; 21 of its beach resorts were awarded of a Blue Flag from FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education).

One of the most visited resorts among those that have Blue Flag recognition is the Valeta AC Laterna that is located in the north eastern part of the city. The whole coast of this beach is pebbly but the sunbathing area is 200 meters long and grassy. This beach also has full facilities such as restaurants, sports and sanitary facilities, life guards and first aid facilities.

But for a more adventurous beach experience, Crnika AC Laterna is the one to try. This beach is a rocky and paved 300 meters long but the facilities that are available also make it quite nice and convenient.

Porec Nightlife

Porec nightlife is quite celebrated in the region. The bars, pubs, caf©s and nightclubs in the city are one of the factors that attract the younger crowds of holiday revellers. The city has different types of nightclubs scattered all over the place to everyone.

The largest night club in Porec is Byblos Discotheque which is actually listed at the 71st position in the Worldâs Top 100 Nightclubs. They bring the latest music and the hottest and most in demand electronic musicians in the industry. The clubâs regulars are Erik Morillo, Sharam, Axwell, David Guetta, and Paul Oakenfold.  

Club Pava is the oldest night club in town. This club is opened only during the tourist season of June to September.

Other clubs are Mansion Club (a famous beach club), The International and The Old Time (for live music).

Margarita is also another big name in the club industry that only operates during the tourist months.

Jazz concerts are held every Wednesday night at Lapidarij.
