Situated between the valleys of the Boivre and the Clain, Poitiers features a temperate climate with warm summers and cool winters. Located in a low district, being the area located between the Armorican and the Central Massif, Poitiersâ then attaches the Aquitaine Basin to the Paris Basin. The town also situated in the peak of a highland, rising more than 40m. Similar to many regions among central France, Poitiers yearly climate is dictated by the surrounding mountains and winds that sweep through.
Spring
Throughout the months of spring, Poitiersâ typical climate is comparatively dry. Although rainfall is rather scattered throughout the year, it is known to be at its minimum throughout the months of April and May. Daytime temperatures remain cool until mid May as they then climb to 14°C or 15°C.
Summer
Summer is definitely the most ideal time to visit Poitiers as temperatures begin to rise to 17 in June and peak around 24°C or 25°C in July and August. Climates during the summer will rarely drop below 15°C after nightfall and the soothing mountain breezes are always present throughout the day. Rainfall during the summer is fairly minimal averaging anywhere from 65mm to 80mm from June to August. Sunshine hours are also at their highest as the town enjoys approximately nine hours of warm sunshine every day.
Autumn
Similar to spring, autumn conveys its fair share of warm, sunny days. Climates are known to still reach 20°C to 22°C by the end of October and the sun continues to shine down for six to seven hours each day. Rainfall however, is more similar to what is experienced in the summer.
Winter
Winter undoubtedly is the coldest and wettest time of the year. If youâre wanting to vacation to Poitiers, a holiday outside of this time is recommended. Throughout December and January the sun is hiding most days as precipitation levels rise from 80mm in October to 100mm in December. Daytime temperatures average around 4°C, but frequently dropping to sub-zero after nightfall.
