Fiesta del Carmen

It is no doubt that the Canarians and the Spanish love a fiesta. If you're visiting Playa Taurito in July, you may be able to witness one of the Canary Island's most important festivals. In the nearby resort of Puerto de Mógan, the Fiesta del Carmen celebrates the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of fishermen. During the festivities, which can last a whole week, statues of the Virgin are taken out to sea in processions of decorated boats to pay tribute to the saint.

Maspalomas

While Playa Taurito is a quiet resort, it makes a great base for exploring Gran Canaria. The resort of Maspalomas is just a 20 minute drive away from Playa Taurito and makes a great day trip. The area is known for its beautiful natural scenery, including sand dunes formed by sand blown from 250km away in the Saharan Desert.

Boat Trips

Just along the coast from Playa Taurito, in Puerto Rico harbour, holiday makers can set sail on a dolphin safari. The ocean around Gran Canaria is home to many dolphins and whales which are wonderful to witness in their natural environment.
