Weather Lowdown
June is high summer season in Playa Pesquero, so this is definitely a great time to visit and enjoy sunny weather that will make your trip all the more special. How sunny, exactly? Well, an average daily temperature of 28°C means that you can rely on getting a pretty decent tan even if you just spend a little time outside.
The daily highs and lows can range from 23°C to 32°C, which means that there is quite a bit of variety through each day so a lower temperature in the morning doesn't mean it won't end up being the hottest of your holiday! If you are concerned about what the weather is going to do, make sure to check on the weather forecast daily. This will allow you to keep track of what to expect, and when. That way you will never be caught out without an umbrella, or expecting colder weather and ending up needing some extra suntan lotion.
One of the things you will want to watch out for on that forecast every morning is expected rain, as this can happen a few times during this month. On average, 165mm will come down over 12 days making this the wettest month of the year. Even then, the rain will not dampen your spirits too much, and when it clears away the bright blue sky takes over once again. They last for a long time, too, with an average of 10 hours of sunshine every day! That's all the more time to get out and explore the beaches. You will definitely want to, by the way, because the average sea temperature has gone up to 29°C this month.
Where to Stay
In June, you will want to stay in a hotel which opens right onto the beach, like the Sol Rio de Luna y Mares. This 4-star hotel has plenty of facilities such as a restaurant with lunch buffet, several bars, mini golf, and a kid's club. There is one section for family fun and entertainment, and the other half of the hotel is reserved for quiet couples and relaxing holidays, so everyone is happy.
A true luxury experience can be found at the Blau Costa Verde Plus Beach Resort, where a free welcome cocktail is just the start of your dream holiday. The all-inclusive restaurant nestles amongst a gym, hair salon, spa, swimming pool, and sports facilities, as well as the chance to take dance classes to learn local styles.
The pink building of the Hotel Ordono is easy to spot from a distance, looking out over the water as it does. This beautiful hotel has a traditional design, but mixes it with modern conveniences to create a welcoming and comfortable space. Sitting by the pool on sun loungers or heading out to the beach will allow you to relax in style.
Hit the Beach
That average sea temperature of 29°C makes it undeniably attractive to go for a swim at Playa Covarrubias. This is the longest beach in the area, allowing you to take a walk along more than five kilometres of white sands as well as ensuring you won't have to fight for space. It's close by to Las Tunas as well, and offers opportunities such as snorkelling and swimming.
As with any beach in Cuba, it's important to look at the warning flags which indicate the current safety of the water. Green flags are great, yellow tell you to watch out, and red flags warn that it is not safe to swim. Water sports and romantic strolls complete the line-up of activities here.
Restaurants and Nightlife
Royal is a laidback restaurant which creates its own cocktail recipes, served in branded glasses for an elegant experience you will want to share with those back home. All of the plates and silverware are beautifully presented to show you that you are in an upmarket establishment but the low price shows you that you are really somewhere special!
If you want to find a bar and watch the world go by, head to the Casa de la Trova, where cocktails and bar snacks are the norm. It is situated in the centre of town so people watching is a popular pastime here! Local Cubans like to come here after work to dance all night long to traditional music styles.
Also in the centre of Holguin is an historic restaurant where you can enjoy a meal in majestic settings. Restaurant 1720 serves traditional Cuban cuisine such as roast pork, lots of fish, chicken stew, and rice and peas. It's a good place to celebrate a special occasion or treat your partner.
Things to Do
Swimming with dolphins is a dream for lots of people, and you can fulfil that dream if you head out to the dolphinarium at Caya Naranjo. Here you can jump into the water to escape the June heat, and have your picture taken with the dolphins alongside a professional guide.
The local islands near to Playa Pesquero are also worth a visit. They offer lush expanses of vegetation and the charm of a quiet escape to paradise. Secluded beaches and private tours await, and you can normally book a day trip to one or another of them from your hotel reception team. This is a great way to explore the local area more.
