Weather Lowdown

Things really begin to hot up in the purpose-built resort of Playa Paraiso on the west coast of Tenerife in July as the temperatures go up and so do the number of visitors. This is when the summer season here really kicks off here so there are plenty of crowds and lots of fun and activities.

Temperature this month soar from an average of 21ºC (70ºF) in June to a beautifully warm 23ºC (73ºF), almost reaching the highest average temperatures seen in August of 24ºC (75ºF). In fact, on average, 29 days out of this month actually do see temperatures at 24ºC (75ºF) or above and the average high at this time of year is a hot 26ºC (79ºF).

As you may expect in the heat of the summer even the low and night time temperatures remain warm with an average low this month of 19ºC (66ºF), a perfect temperature for eating outside at night or star gazing from your balcony or terrace.

Again this month there is very little chance of seeing any rain in the resort with no average rain fall at all and only the chance of 1 day of rain across the whole month, there is also only a 2% chance of experiencing a cloudy day which explains why the resort is such a popular summer sun destination.

There's plenty of time to enjoy the sun this month too with the island's maximum of 12 hours of sunshine each day and a 71% chance of a sunny day. The trade winds do blow at this time of year with a 65% chance of experiencing a windy day but usually this comes in the form of a welcome refreshing breeze cooling down those soaking up the sun on the beach.

Where to Stay

Get away from the July crowds in Playa Paraiso by staying in one of the town's most exclusive hotels, the all-inclusive Club Hotel Riu Buena Vista. With its beachfront location and excellent service this is a real holiday treat. There are plenty of facilities to keep you busy from tennis on the hotel's tennis courts and swimming pool, to a fully equipped gym and sports centre as well as daily (and nightly) entertainment for both adults and kids.

A little further down the coast is the luxurious Vincci Seleccion La Plantacion del Sur, a vast 5 star hotel complex built in a traditional Andalusian style. You will find everything you need within the hotel's grounds including 5 swimming pools, an elegant Canarian restaurant, as well as a further buffet restaurant and bar which host regular live entertainment. The rooms each have their own private, furnished balconies while the villas feature their own terrace and outdoor Jacuzzi.

If you are looking for a self-catering option in Playa Paraiso itself then you should consider the El Marquez apartment with its large sunroof with ocean views. A two-bedroom apartment spread over two floors with two separate balconies, this is a spacious option for families or a group.

Things to Do

Have some serious fun in the July sun at one of Europe's biggest water parks, Siam Park. Take a tranquil ride through the park on the inflatable rings of Mai Thai River, hang out with friends on the white sands of Siam Beach, and stop off for something to eat and some souvenirs on the Floating Market before upping the excitement level on the adrenalin pumping rides of Kinnaree, Mekong Rapids and the Tower of Power! There is also plenty here for younger kids with some fun-filled rides and slides just for them.

Explore under the waves of the Atlantic Ocean without even getting your feet wet with a Submarine Safari. On board a small submarine seating up around 40 people, you'll reach depths of 20m and see all the stunning marine life that thrives around the Canary Islands. The trip lasts for an hour and goes past wrecks and rock formations with a guide to talk you through everything you see. This really is a unique experience for anyone who has ever wanted to see what lies beneath the ocean waves.

Hit the Beach

Just up the coast from Playa Paraiso in the small resort town of Puerto Santiago is Playa La Arena, a beach described by many as the best sunbathing beach on Tenerife. With a stunning aspect and a wide stretch of soft black volcanic sand this beach is set in a small bay which protects it from any local winds. The average sea temperature here in July is a tempting 22ºC, making it the perfect month to visit. There are plenty of sun loungers, bars and cafes so bring a beach bag and stay for the day.

Probably the most famous beach on Tenerife, it's easy to see why Playa de Las Americas remains so popular with visitors to the island thanks to its vast expanse of yellow sand running beside a promenade lined with vibrant cafes, bars and restaurants. There is every kind of water sport and excursion imaginable here from submarine rides and jet skiing to scuba diving but many people come here just to lie in the sun and swim in the beautiful calm waters.

Eating & Drinking Out

For a budget-busting gastronomic treat visit Kabuki, the Japanese fusion restaurant with a Michelin star at the Ritz-Carlton Abama in Guia de Isora. With a stylish, minimalist décor it is the food here that really does the talking created by chef Daniel Franco the dishes blend western and Japanese influences to produce delicate, elegant dishes. Try the degustación menu.

For a more down to earth meal venture up the hill in Playa Paraiso to Gastro-Bar Barco where you will be served with authentic Spanish tapas before enjoying a delicious meal from the international menu which includes everything from fish and chips to grilled octopus. The food is all fresh and perfectly cooked and the welcome by the friendly staff is always warm and inviting.

For elegant drinking in the region's party capital Playa de las Américas, try the Papagayo Beach Club. Offering a stylish daytime chill out scene and a cocktail and party venue at night the club boasts the latest tunes played by regular guest DJs. Definitely a venue for the super-cool.
