What's the weather like in Playa del Ingles in July

Temperature

July sees the crowds roll up at Playa del Ingles, taking advantage of the great mid-summer weather. Things really start to heat up in this Gran Canaria town, with average temperatures of 22°C, peaking at around 25°C. Night-time temperatures average at a warm 19°C, so no jackets required if you're heading out to sample the town's lively nightlife.

Playa del Ingles has reached a blistering record daytime high of 41°C in July, while the lowest July temperature on record is just 17°C. Temperatures generally heat up 2°C through the month and can soar unexpectedly as a result of hot and dry conditions radiating across from the North African coast, so choosing air-conditioned accommodation will make your holiday more comfortable.

Rain

July is part of the dry season at this Spanish resort. The almost desert-like conditions generally mean no rainfall whatsoever during the month, which is a major selling point for the town. The beaches are very popular during this dry spell.

Wind

There is little cloud cover, so make sure you apply plenty of sun lotion to protect your skin. The weather can be humid; however the trade winds pick up over the course of the month to keep things feeling fresh. Towards the end of July, the average wind speeds are likely to be between a strong breeze and high wind.

Average Sunshine Hours and Sea Temperature

The number of sunshine hours hits its peak for the year at a dazzling twelve hours a day. The sea temperature remains the same at an average of 21°C and it is set to get even warmer during late summer and early autumn.

Playa del Ingles Hotels in July

Stay at the three-star Maritim Playa for affordable and well-appointed accommodation. All apartments boast private balconies and en suite facilities. There's also a restaurant, bar and pool onsite for relaxing.

Another three-star option is the Hotel Riu Don Miguel. With friendly staff and comfortable rooms, this hotel boasts a fresh water swimming pool, a solarium-terrace, a playground, plus activities including table tennis, pool, table football and tennis. In the evenings, you can sit back and enjoy a programme of entertainment programme and live music.

Playa del Ingles Beach for July

Playa del Ingles enjoys almost 1.5 miles of pure white sand, ideal for basking all day and soaking up the summer sun. In the west, you'll find the widest part of the beach and a gently-shelving shoreline. There are plenty of toilets and showers along the beach, as well as small kiosks and huts selling beach equipment and refreshments.

All beachfront establishments are numbered, and the area around beach hut 7 is known as Playa del Ingles's gay beach. Clothing is optional here, so be careful if travelling with children. This part of the beach is easily identifiable by the rainbow flag on the beach hut.

Bars and Restaurants

J's Bar is one of the most popular gay bars in Playa del Ingles. It has two menus: the shots menu and the cocktail menu, so don't expect a sober night here! Ranging from the traditional Sambuca to the 'Strawberry Cheesecake', containing real pieces of biscuit, the drinks here are sure to go down nicely. The bar is located in the Yumbo Shopping Centrum and is open every night.

If pizza and pasta is your preference, head to Costa Italy, which has friendly waiters and free WiFi. Take a seat on its outdoor terrace and enjoy the view over the ocean while you dine al fresco.

Things to do in Playa del Ingles in July

While the weather's warm and dry, head to the beach and try out some scuba diving. Dive Academy Gran Canaria, located a nine mile drive away in Arguineguin, is perfect for experts and complete beginners, being the only diving school on the island with its own private training pool. The centre is 5-star PADI certified and also offers snorkelling and a 'bubble maker' introductory course for children.

If you love shopping, you'll find plenty of souvenir stores to browse on Playa del Ingles's famous 2km-long promenade, which runs behind the main part of the beach. Head into town and you'll find no less than twelve shopping centres, including the Kasbah Centre and the popular Yumbo Shopping Centrum, which offer everything from designer clothes to electronics.
