What's the weather like in Playa del Ingles in August

Temperature

August is the hottest month of the year in the Spanish town of Playa del Ingles, with average temperatures of 24°C. It's not unusual for daytime temperatures to soar to 26°C. There's really not much difference between midday and overnight temperatures, which drop only slightly to 21°C, so it's best to book accommodation with air-conditioning to avoid feeling uncomfortable in the heat.

This resort has reached a sweltering record daytime high of 40°C in August, so be sure to bring your sun screen and protective clothing if you are sensitive to the heat. The lowest August temperature on record is 15°C, but conditions this cold are unlikely.

Rain

August is the last month of the summer dry season. There's typically no rainfall at all during this month in Playa del Ingles and the skies are mostly clear.

Wind

The trade winds take the edge off the heat you can expect to experience moderate breezes to high wind but wind speeds gradually tail off as the month progresses. The wind currents can occasionally bring over hot and dusty air from North Africa, causing temperatures to suddenly escalate, but these heat waves don't usually last long.

Average Sunshine Hours and Sea Temperature

The number of sunshine hours dips to a still bright eleven hours a day, while the sea temperature warms up to 22°C just a degree away from its warmest temperature of the year.

Playa del Ingles Hotels in August

For true budget accommodation be sure to check out the two-star Las Walkirias Resort which is particularly suited to families and couples. The complex features a sauna, two swimming pools and a poolside bar. All rooms have private terraces and fully-fitted kitchenettes.

The Hotel Escorial & Spa is a three-star resort close to Playa de las Burras and the north end of Playa del Ingles. Set among spectacular tropical gardens, it offers enviable rooftop views over the ocean. Its outstanding facilities include swimming pools, a gym, a tennis court, mini golf and a fabulous spa offering a range of relaxing treatments.

Playa del Ingles Beach for August

One of the big draws of the area is the famous Sahara-like sand dunes of the neighbouring Maspalomas beach. A walk south from the beach at Playa del Ingles will take you past protected natural spaces including the Maspalomas Natural Dune Reserve and the Maspalomas Palm Tree plantation.

Beyond here you will find the coastline expands to huge waves of sand dunes, which are continually changing their shape by the wind whipping off the ocean. Visitors with children should be aware that some of the areas here are nudist beaches. The beach has various places along its length where you can hire sun loungers and umbrellas or, for the ultimate desert safari experience, hire a quad bike or a camel ride over the dunes.

A walk north from Playa del Ingles beach will bring you to Playa de las Burras. This small beach is just 300m, but is perfect for families wishing to avoid the 18-30 crowds in the summer. However, it can get quite windy here and visitors should be wary of the sea's strong currents.

Bars and Restaurants

Enjoy dinner at the Restaurante La Toja. This cosy restaurant serves up French-inspired starters and main courses, but it's the desserts that keep visitors coming back for more. You won't miss this restaurant with its bright neon sign outside.

If you're looking for a fun night out, check out the famous 2km promenade, which hosts bars, clubs, and even a casino. Clubbers are in for a treat, as all the big names have venues in town, including the Ministry of Sound, plus Pacha and Cream, which can both be found in the Kasbah Centre.

Things to do in Playa del Ingles in August

Adrenalin junkies will be pleased to know there are plenty of water-sports available at Playa del Ingles, including jet-skis, banana boats, windsurfing, sailing and more. Head for the Anexo II shopping centre, at the north end of the beach, for your water-sports fix.

For a day out with bite, drive 19 miles north east to find Parque de los Cocodrilo. With over 300 crocodiles and alligators on display, this crocodile park also houses a zoo containing many exotic animals. Children will love the daily parrot show by the restaurant in the centre of the park.
