What's the Weather like in Playa Del Carmen in March

Temperature

March really starts to warm up in Playa del CarmenMexico. Temperatures being to soar as the resort heads towards the summer months. Because it is located so close to the equator, Playa del Carmen sees a mild climate throughout the year with plenty of sunshine throughout the day. March is still in the dry season, which means there is minimal rainfall during the month. This is a popular time to visit the resort because the high temperatures, lack of rain, and long hours of sunshine provide the perfect climate for hanging out on the beach.

During the day, temperatures can get really hot, rising to 30°C and above in the afternoon. Usually, though, you can expect average temperatures to hover around 26°C extremely pleasant for this time of year. The nights remain warm as well, with low temperatures sitting at a very warm 21°C. If you are visiting Playa del Carmen in March, you will want to pack lightweight clothing for the day, such as t-shirts, shorts and swimwear, but you might also want to pack a few thin jumpers or cardigans for the evenings. Remember to pack lots of sun cream, too, as the sun is very fierce at this time of year.

Rain 

Thanks to its tropical climate, the winter months are also the dry season in Playa del Carmen, which means March sees very little rainfall. In fact, it is one of the driest months of the year with an average of just 6mm falling throughout the entire month. With only an 8% chance of rain over an average of 1 day, it is highly unlikely that you'll encounter any of the wet stuff during your trip so there is no need to pack an umbrella or waterproofs!

Sunshine Hours 

The tropical climate also means that there are plenty of hours of sunshine during the day even in the winter months. In March you can expect to see around 10 hours of sunshine a day loads of time to explore the cultural activities and still have time to laze around on the beach.

Average Sea Temperatures 

Many tourists flock to Playa del Carmen for its Caribbean beaches, which are characterised by white sand and sparkling blue waters. Luckily, even in March, the sea temperatures are an extremely pleasant 26°C which means you can still splash about in the waves without getting cold. There is a 38% chance of a windy day in March, though, so if it does get a bit blustery be sure to stay safe in the water.

March is one of the best times to visit Playa del Carmen because it is extremely warm, the days are long and sunny, and there is barely any rain to boot.

Playa Del Carmen Hotels in March

For a more personal, independent stay, the Elements Condos provide the perfect backdrop to explore the resort. Situated near Playa del Carmen's famous Fifth Avenue, each apartment has its own private patio with dining area, perfect for evening al fresco dining. In addition, guests can enjoy uninterrupted views out across the private beach that is exclusively open to the condo residents. The rooms are modern and comfortable with brightly coloured paintings adorning the whitewashed walls, dark wood furniture, and ambient lighting. There is also large outdoor swimming pool for guests to enjoy, as well as an on-site restaurant, a fitness and wellness centre, and a welcoming concierge service.

The Hotel Hacienda del Caribe is situated in a beautiful, colonial-style building oozing with Mexican design there is plenty of terracotta, rustic adornments and earthy tones throughout the building, and each room is a haven of cosy décor. The large wooden doors of the apartments overlook the central courtyard which boasts a feature pool and lots of greenery. Inside the rooms, there is a simple, elegant ambience with crisp white bedding, contemporary furniture and individual balconies boasting great views. There is also an on-site Mexican restaurant, as well as a lounge area surrounding the pool.

The Hotel Petit Lafitte is a cute seaside bungalow resort situated right on the sandy, Caribbean shores. Each room in the hotel is decorated in traditional Mexican style with tiled floors, earthy tones and crisp white walls, plus there is a private balcony with a dining area and views across the beach. The bungalows boast more of a rustic design, with wooden walls and a jungle-style interior. Guests can enjoy the games room, restaurant, beach front bar and grill, the in-house relaxing spa, and even an animal rescue centre that is on-site.

 

Playa Del Carmen Beach for March 

Punta Bete is one of the lesser-known beaches along Playa del Carmen's stretch of coastline. Nestled between Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos, it is a secluded hotspot perfect for those looking to find a little peace and quiet amongst the hustle and bustle. The beach is typical of the region, with sprawling white sands and clear, shallow waters, and there is plenty of opportunity to try your hand at watersports. There are a number of luxury hotels that occupy this stretch of beach, which means that there are plenty of cocktail bars and upmarket restaurants to refuel in, but there is also a beach bar and restaurant for light refreshments. It is a popular beach with the locals, who tend to flock to it on the weekends and holidays with their families.

Puerto Morelos itself has a great beach that provides a quieter atmosphere than the main beaches of Playa del Carmen. Situated between Playa del Carmen and Cancun, this stretch of sand is one of the longest and cleanest public shorelines in the region. Puerto Morelos itself is a small fishing village, so there is plenty of opportunity to explore local life and sample some delicious, fresh seafood from the vendors that dot the beach. There are also a number of small boat trips you can take from here, as well as numerous opportunities for snorkelling and scuba diving in the nearby reef. The ambience is livened up with musicians strolling the sands, plus there are a few fun beach bars surrounding the shore.

Bars and Restaurants 

The Imprevist Restaurant is a stylish affair in the heart of the resort. The ambient interior, filled with dark-wood fittings and contemporary furniture, provides an intimate dining experience. Mexican food takes centre stage, made from fresh, local ingredients. You can sample some specialities like enchiladas, rancheros, or chilaquiles, or enjoy some of the international dishes which include roast duck breast, pan-fried sea bass, and grilled lobster risotto.

Afrodisiako offers a lively, bright atmosphere to enjoy great food and cocktails in. The décor is colourful and fun, with bursts of colour and plenty of art on the walls. It is best known for its expansive wine cellar and variety of classic cocktails, but its food menu is equally as good. Serving everything from breakfast dishes like croissants and coffee to evening meals with an Italian touch such as roast beef, risotto, and tuna goulash, it is a great choice for any time of the day.

For a gourmet al fresco dining experience, book a table at Pavo Real by the Sea. The tables are laid out on a rustic patio surrounded by greenery and views out across the beach and sea. It is perfect for a romantic meal, and the delicious hearty meals offer a taste of fresh local produce, with dishes including beef tenderloin, rack of lamb, stuffed squid, and truffle lobster. 

Things to do in Playa Del Carmen in March 

Playa del Carmen boasts beautiful surroundings, with thick lush jungles, panoramic trails, and glorious beaches. One of the best ways to explore all that the resort has to offer is by horseback, and Rancho Baaxal offers visitors the chance to head out on a ride through the amazing Mexican scenery. You can ride along the beach, get up close and personal with the wildlife, and even enjoy a breath-taking sunset ride.

Art lovers should visit the Galeria de Arte which is located on Playa del Carmen's famous Fifth Avenue. The small, intimate venue boasts a colourful selection of works by local artists as well as those from further afield. The gallery often holds small exhibition openings and helps visitors find their perfect piece of Mexican art.

La Quinta Avenida is the main hub of Playa del Carmen, providing a street filled with loads of things to see and do. There is a colourful market with stalls piled high with textiles, artisan crafts and local produce, plus there are a number of boutique stores, top-notch restaurants and plenty of cafes where you can grab a drink and watch the world go by.
