What's the weather like in Playa de las Americas in August

Temperature

August is one of the busiest months of the year for Playa de Las AmericasTenerife (Canary Islands), when the resort is bustling with families on summer holidays, couples on romantic getaways and lively groups looking to party. During this month, the resort experiences an average temperature of 24.5°C in the first few days which very gradually rises up to 25°C by the end of the month.

Daily Temperatures

Daily highs stay constant at 28°C throughout the month, whilst daily lows increase from 21°C to 22°C as the month develops. Even though it only happens once every ten days or so, temperatures can sometimes exceed 31°C or fall below 20°C during August in Playa de Las Americas.

Extreme Temperatures

In August, the highest temperature which has ever been recorded as the closest weather station to Playa de Las Americas (the one located at Reina Sofía south airport) is 44.3°C, which was registered on August 17th in 1988. Not only is this the highest temperature ever recorded in August it's the hottest temperature ever recorded in the south of Tenerife during any month. On the other hand, the lowest temperature which has ever been recorded here in August is 17.1°C, which was registered on August 25th in 2007.

Rain

During August, Playa de Las Americas receives an average of 0mm (zero inches) of rainfall. If the resort does experience some rainfall at this time of the year, it mostly falls on a single rainy day. With any form of precipitation at all being incredibly unlikely to make an appearance, it's safe to say that rainfall won't affect your holiday in the slightest if you visit the resort in August.

The average sea temperature for the beaches around Playa de Las Americas in August is 23°C that's 1°C warmer than in July. As you'd expect, this temperature is perfect for a wide variety of aquatic activities, including water sports, scuba diving, snorkelling and swimming, which is why you'll see such a large number of swimmers and sunbathers on the beaches at this time of year.

Across a typical August in Playa de Las Americas, normal wind speeds vary between 1 m/s (light air) and 11 m/s (strong breeze) very rarely going above 13 m/s (strong breeze). The highest average wind speed of 6 m/s (moderate breeze) happens around August 21st, when the average daily maximum is 11 m/s. Weather Warnings

August falls within the summer season in the resort, which means that calimas and siroccos are very likely to occur. Between the two unfavourable weather conditions, calimas are the mildest and are known for their high temperatures, low visibility and dryness of air. Siroccos are more serious and are characterised by even higher temperatures, lower visibility and remarkably strong winds.

Both calimas and siroccos are caused by severe sand storms which are blown across the Atlantic from the west coast of Africa. Although they can be predicted days or even weeks in advance, their duration is always unpredictable they can last anywhere between a few hours up to ten days.

Whilst they aren't of serious concern during the winter months, calimas and siroccos can both be very dangerous during summer especially August when temperatures can rise up to 20°C higher than the average.

Found directly next to Playa de TroyaPlaya del Bobo is the ideal location for families and couples alike to enjoy a day under the sun. Here you can relax on warm dark sand or cool off by taking a dip in sea.
