What's the Weather Like in Phuket in March
Thailand and Phuket in particular has become one of the world's most popular holiday destinations due to its tropical climate and near constant temperatures throughout the year. Highest variance is seen in the rainfall during the monsoon with highs of 400mm to the dry season with lows of 30 and 40mm a day.
Rain
March is at the very end of the dry season and start of the hot season and you will see an average rainfall of 40mm falling over 7 to 8 days. The end of month can be wetter heading towards April's higher rainfall of 150mm which will steadily increase as the monsoon season approaches with a high of 400mm in May.
Temperature
Average daytime temperatures are slowly on the increase and March is 1°C hotter than last month at 29°C between average high/lows of 34°C and 23°C respectively.
Humidity
The average humidity varies here from month to month but in March an average of 75% is lower than the monsoon highs of 90%. Humidity will slowly rise now and increase each month. Dry days will be less humid at around 60 to 65% but on wet days it will increase.
Sunshine
The average sunshine hours have dropped again to 8 hours a day as the number of wet days has increased. During the monsoon it will drop to just 7 hours a day. This number is less than you would expect being in the tropics but the monsoon weather has an effect on this aspect of the weather.
Sea Temperature
Ocean temperatures are steady here with an average sea temperature of 29°C that is 1 degree less than the high of 30°C in the hot season.
Fog
Being in the tropics you will see some foggy days and March has an average of 8 foggy days which is the maximum for Phuket. From March onwards, foggy days lessen.

Beaches for March for Phuket
Nai Yang Beach
Nai Yang Beach is popular with many returning tourists who have discovered it on a previous trip. This is a northern beach and away from the main road and is shaded by many large Casuarina trees. It is not a popular swimming beach but is a lovely spot to relax in the shade and enjoy a cold drink from the nearby hotel the Indigo Pearl. There are a number of tiny bars and restaurants dotted along the beach run by locals who all serve excellent food that is often better than in larger restaurants. For an authentic Thai food experience this beach really offers the goods.
Sai Kaew Beach
At the northern most point of Phuket is Sai Kaew Beach which extends from the Sarasin Bridge linking Phuket to Mainland Thailand and to Mai Khao Beach. A narrow strip of sand erupts from the grassy shore and slopes down to the water. This is a boating channel but the water is remarkably clean. At the northern end of the beach is a sheltered spot that is safe and protected from the higher waves of the rainy season.
Bang Tao Beach
Bang Tao Beach is a 6 kilometre long beach near Chern Talang, a local fishing village. The beach is also home to the Laguna complex of resorts and golf courses. Some of these resorts open their facilities to beach goers so there can be lots to do around this beach of you want to. At the northern end of the beach there's been very little development, so it's a much quieter, more relaxing spot.

Breeze at Cape Yamu is open Wednesday to Saturday and on Sundays for their long lazy brunch that you need to book for. Choose from a small but good menu including a pasta, fish dish, meat dish, soup, salads and desserts.
Taste Bar & Grill
Taste Bar & Grill at Surin Beach offers you a great selection of dishes for appetizers such as blackened tuna, soft shell crab and hot wings. There is a variety of fresh tasty salads, Thai and Japanese inspired fish and some mains featuring Australian beef. Try one of the great specials that include wagyu beef, mussels, tuna and salmon. The wine menu is extensive with whites, reds and champagnes.
DeDos
If fusion food is your thing, try DeDos with its mix of French and Thai inspired food. The chef has trained at Paul Bocuse' cooking school in Lyon in France and the restaurant is open from 6pm every day. Located in ChernTalay in Talang bookings are recommended. Choose from classic French, seafood, pasta and decadent chocolate desserts. They have daily specials, special gourmet wine dinners and fresh Phuket lobsters.
Things to Do in Phuket in March
Loch Palms
Golfers can enjoy a game of golf at one of 5 courses on the island of Phuket and Loch Palms is built around a lake, which is the largest body of water on any of the 5 courses. The 18 holes wander among ravines, uphill and downhill and are ideal for any level golfer from the amateur to the professional. It is located in Kathu district and has a modern Pro shop and restaurant.
Monkey Hill
Animal lover? Head to Monkey Hill or Toe Sae Hill to see the macaques. This spot is located in Phuket town and is the highest hill in the area. You will need a reasonable level of fitness to climb the hill but the hands-on experience at the top is well worth it. Buy some bananas on the way up the hill and the macaques will come and take one from your hand. Open every day, Friday is the busiest and you need to be careful if you have smaller children.
Thaihua Museum
If it's a cloudy day why not visit Thaihua Museum located in the Tambon Talat Nua area of Muang. It is in an old school and a museum in honour of the Chinese who settled in Thailand, in particular Phuket. There are several exhibition rooms from the tin mining era, Master Sunpin, a Chinese school and settlement, Heritage, Cuisine and Phuket-China relations.
Phuket Botanic Garden
Green-fingered types will love the Phuket Botanic Garden located in Phuket Town in the Muang district. The gardens contain collections of plants that come from more than 30 zones worldwide. Each zone has palms, herbs, fragrant plants, orchards, pavilions and orchid displays. It is also a research centre for botanists and horticulturists.
Wander through cactus, herb, and English, Japanese, Rainforest or Balinese gardens, and then see the orchid, fern and orchard gardens. The water lily garden contains plants from Thailand and other countries. At the gardens there is a kiosk and restaurant, children's playground and tourist information centre. It is closed on Wednesdays and opens from 9am to 4:30pm.
