What's the Weather Like in Phuket in August

August lies within the monsoon season in Phuket and it does not seem to deter any tourists visiting the area. Many come for the night life and spend the days lazing on the b each after the morning rains have gone. 

Rain

Average rainfall drops slightly this month from July to 260mm and will increase towards the end of the month to the September high of 400mm. The rain will fall on an average of 19 days and will be replaced by sunny days with a cooling breeze where the constant warm temperatures are pleasant to be indoors and outdoors.

Temperature

Being near to the equator warm temperatures remain all year around and in August the average temperature is 28°C that sits between the average high/low temperatures of 25°C and 31°C. The cooling breeze will minimise the effects of the high humidity with the average humidity sitting around 85%. The highest humidity is experienced in September and is accompanied by the highest rainfall. Many places you visit will be air conditioned or oriented to take advantage of the cooling breeze from the sea.

Sunshine 

The monsoon limits the number of sunshine hours to 8 hours a day which still gives you ample time to relax on the beaches and swim. 

Sea Temperature

Ocean temperatures are a warm 29°C that is only 1 degree less than the highest of 30°C seen during the hot months. Be aware that some beaches in direct influence of the monsoon will be closed at times and you need to pay attention to the flags on the beach to stay safe. These beaches will have larger swells, higher waves and dangerous undertows.

Fog

August will see an average of 2 foggy days that is just 1 day more than last month. December to April is the time of year with the foggiest days.

Beaches for August for Phuket

Coral Island

Coral Island is located to the south of Phuket and is a great spot for swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving and parasailing. The island has a few beaches of white sand with crystal clear water and a walk over the hill takes you to a sandy beach in a quiet bay. The main beach is called Long Beach and is a busy spot with rows of boats moored just offshore and you can feed the tropical fish. From here you can enjoy a banana boat ride or snorkel out around the coral reefs giving the island its name. You can also hire a long tail boat to get here or book yourself into a tour to the island.

Snorkelling Beaches

There are lots of great snorkelling beaches on the island of Phuket where you can look at the tropical fish and the coral reefs that are often just offshore from the beaches. Many of these beaches will have places to hire snorkelling gear from if you don't have your own. Hire goggles, snorkels, flippers and face masks. If you have an underwater camera you can take some great pictures of the marine life that abounds in these warm waters. Choose from Banana Beach, Ao Sane, Laem Ka or Laem Singh, Ya Nui, Nai Thon or Kata Beach.

Boathouse Wine and Grill

The Boathouse Wine and Grill is located at the Boathouse Phuket in Koktanode Road Kata Beach. This eatery offers you 3 choices of meals from the wonderfully tasty Degustation menu, Set French menu or Set Thai menu. Open for lunch and dinner from 11am to 11pm.

The Degustation menu includes oysters, duck and foie gras and the French menu has Amuse bouche, ravioli, lamb and tangy lemon tart to finish and the Thai menu is prawns, sea bass, slow cooked lamb curry and sticky mango rice for dessert. Things to Do in Phuket in August

Phuket Aquarium

The Phuket Aquarium is open every day from 8:30am to 4:30pm and is located in Sakdidej Road Muang. Exhibits include the Science and nature Trail, marine vessel, marine endangered species, sea turtle pool, hatchery and a reference collection. Every weekend you can watch the divers feeding sharks and interacting with other marine between 11am and 11:30am.

Learn the secret of Pa-Luek Island and learn about marine conservation in a fun way. This is a fun way to spend some time with the kids and learn about how important our marine ecology is today. The souvenir shop also sells snacks and drinks.

Suwan Kiri Wong Temple

If you are after some great local architecture you need to visit the Suwan Kiri Wong Temple in Patong Road at Patong. These temples are a majestic set of graceful buildings with intricate and beautiful artwork and the main  temple is 3 stories high and has some lovely scenes and stone pillars inside.

Chinpracha House

Another beautiful building is the Chinpracha House and museum originally built in 1904 and wasn't completed until 3 years later. It is a fine example of a Sino Portuguese mansion and is listed as a National Heritage Building. Built as a private house it is now a museum showing you what the homes were like in the early 1900s. A koi fish pond has been built in the inner courtyard and all rooms look onto the courtyard and atrium.
