Pezenas, France
Pezenasâs name comes from a long line of off shoots from more archaic words. To cut to the chase, it means fishpond due to it being close to the river H©rault, which was known for its abundance of fish during the heyday. Itâs famous for its many historical edifices and la Ch¢teau de P©zenas which was supposedly founded by Celts in 407BC and was one of many of Julius Caesarâs hang outs.
There are plenty of restaurants and hotels to stay in and the town has enough to see to occupy a weekâs stay and is close enough to the coast for a day at the seaside.
It gets a lot of sun and is hot, but thankfully not scorching, making a holiday to the town of Pezenas worthwhile for art and history-lovers and door-enthusiasts as the town has its very own door museum.
Summer
The temperature rises to summerâs heat in May, so by the time the season officially begins itâs already well into the high 20°C range with the high-end tipping 30°C (86°F). Good news: it doesnât get too cold in the summer, with the lows being 16°C (60.8°F), so all in all you can expect a nice average of around 24°C (75°F). Itâs warm enough to go without sleeves and not be bothered by the wind.
Another good factor about Pezenasâs summer is that it doesnât see all that much rain. The season gets anything from 14-31mm, which makes the summer the townâs dry season. Autumn is when the rain really lets it rip.
Given the lack of rain, there isnât too much humidity in the air, especially when compared to a few miles out on the coast. The humidity in the mornings hangs in the 70% range and drops by around 20% in the afternoon. It gives the resort-town hot days and cool nights which are quite thankful, because nobody likes to go to sleep when itâs uncomfortably hot.
The town does have a high UV index during the summer, so take some sun block. If you forget some, write down âcr¨me de protection solaireâ and ask for some at a shop.
Winter
It can get fairly cold for being so near the Mediterranean. The temperature drops to the 20°C range mid-Autumn and lands at single figures in December. The extreme highs crack the doubles throughout the whole season, thankfully, being 12°C (53°F) through Dec and Jan and rising to 14°C (57°F) in February, but the average temperature will be around 8°C (46°F) with lows of 3°C (37°F).
The winter has some of the autumnâs left over rain which fades as the months progress, so itâs still worth checking the forecast before venturing out. November has 65mm, December: 55mm and thankfully the January has only 28mm to keep the new year dry. All that water means humidity will be around the 70% range which means lots of fog and ground frost as the moisture will drag the temperature below freezing.
Pezenas is no stranger to snow, but itâs hardly best of friends with it either as the snow falls on average 1 day a month at best.
