Penrith, England<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Penrith is a small market town in the beautiful Lake District in Northern England. It has a maritime climate and, although rain is generally well-distributed throughout the year in Penrith, it still typically has four distinct seasons. The Lake District is exposed to westerly maritime air masses and areas of high ground make the area one of the wettest places of the UK.

Summer

Summer is typically the warmest time of year for Penrith. The months of June, July and August have an average high temperature hitting around a pleasant 17°C, but with average low temperatures hanging at around a cool 8°C. In true Lake District fashion, rain does make a frequent appearance with up to 99 millimetres of precipitation each month (there are lakes for a reason!). Even though summer is the âdriestâ time of the year in Penrith, it still goes without saying that visitors and habitants of Penrith should come prepared for wet weather! For further information, it is recommended that visitors should check the weather forecast before their arrival, in order to come prepared as possible.

Autumn

Autumn is a beautiful time of year in Penrith (albeit wet!) when visitors can admire all the colours displayed all over the breathtaking natural landscapes, from the trees to the hills. On pleasant days, temperatures can reach around a comfortable 14°C, suitable for exploring the town and countryside. However, it might still be a good idea to take items of warmer clothing, as average low temperatures hit around 5°C in the Cumbrian town. Rainfall is rather heavy throughout the months of autumn; there are over 100 millimetres of rain over each month. The wettest month of autumn is November with up to a soaking 180 millimetres of precipitation in total, so it really is a good idea to arrive in Penrith with items of waterproof clothing and umbrellas!

Winter

Winter is typically the coldest season in Penrith, with the average low temperature not reaching above a chilly 1°C. It is likely that temperatures will drop below freezing throughout the winter months. The average high temperatures are not much of an improvement either, all at a cool 6°C. Winter is certainly not the time to forget to bring woolly jumpers, hats and scarves to Penrith, so be sure to check the weather forecast before arriving! Winter is the wettest season of the whole year in Penrith with monthly precipitation levels all reaching above 200 millimetres of rain! The wettest month of the year is January with a very wet 230 millimetres of rain in total throughout the 31 days.

Spring

Spring is the time of year when the sun (thankfully!) begins to shine once more and temperatures rise⦠it still rains though! Nevertheless, precipitation levels are not overly high compared to the winter months with only around 115 millimetres of rain in total each month. At least this helps the springtime flowers and trees blossom! Temperatures can still be rather cool at this time of year in Penrith at around a cool 3°C. However, the sun still does its fair share of shining with average high temperatures reaching up to a pleasant 14°C in the month of May.
