Even though June is still in the middle of the first monsoon season, the rains aren't quite as numerous during this time of the year making it a good time to visit Penang. Most of the rain will fall in the afternoon hours and you can almost be assured of a thunderstorm or two between 3:00 and 4:00. However, most of the rain showers do not last long and the sun is quick to pop out again.

Of course, this is also the first month of summer and the temperatures will once again reflect that with warm evenings and afternoons. Overall, the average daily temperature is 28°C (82°F). The day begins with an average overnight low of only 24°C (75°F). Despite the mix of both sun and clouds, temperatures will climb steadily to a high of 31°C (88°F). With the moisture in the air raising the humidity levels, it will feel much warmer than that.

This is still a good time of the year to enjoy the warm waters around the area and maybe to even cool off just a little bit. The average surface seawater temperature is a perfect 30°C (86°F). Visitors can also enjoy 8 hours of sunshine each day for laying out on the beach, jungle hiking or just relaxing by the resort's outdoor pool.

Rain amounts are still high during the month, but have dipped considerably from what they were in April and May. The average amount of rainfall for the month is 170mm. An average of 15 days each month receive measurable rainfall. Again, the rain will be heavy at times, but it very rarely will last all day allowing visitors to do some outdoor sightseeing even on days with showers and thunderstorms. Of course, many parts of Malaysia and the south Pacific are also experiencing the same type of weather during the first month of summer.

For those who have points or miles to spend and would prefer staying in a hotel with a worldwide name, the Four Points by Sheraton will not disappoint. June guests will enjoy the all-day restaurant, outdoor pool, 24-hour gym, and free WiFi throughout the hotel. The hotel is just 15 minutes from the center of town and all the major sites and sounds.

With a mix of business and comfort, The Light Hotel is the perfect choice for business or holiday travelers. Just a half-hour's drive from George Town, Tanjung Bungah has become more and more popular over the last several years and is now one of the premier beaches in the region. In addition to lounging on the beach or going for a swim in the 30°C (86°F) waters, visitors can also take advantage of a wide array of water sports such as kayaking and canoeing. There are also plenty of land-based sports such as beach volleyball and beach soccer.

Those looking for traditional Chinese noodles will find them at Yeap Noodles. Made from scratch and using a mix of spices, there are a number of different types and flavours available and all are reasonably priced. This is a great spot to have lunch or stop by for a quick meal on the go.

With a small and cosy atmosphere, Noor & Dean's Kafe offers great ambiance as well as good local food at good prices. The staff is also very friendly and welcoming as well as being very attentive. This is a great place to relax for a while and meet up with friends or family.

Easily, one of the hottest nightspots in Penang is the Three Sixty Revolving Restaurant and Sky Bar. This cool bar is located on the top of the Bayview Hotel George Town. The indoor area is home to the restaurant while guests can enjoy an open-air lounge on the outside with modern white chairs that offer vistas that are second to none. The fact that the bar also offers a wide array of well-mixed cocktails at reasonable prices helps to round out the ambiance.

The Penang 3D Trick Art Museum is a great place to spend a rainy June afternoon. The trick art refers to a technique that transforms a traditional 2D painting into a 3D image. Therefore, the art and images on the wall appear to come to life. As a result, visitors can "crawl into" the paintings and take photographs that you can't find anywhere else. The museum is fun for the whole family and offers a new and different appreciation of art.

More fun for the whole family can be found at Escape Adventureplay. Here, there are adventures for those of all ages as family members can partake in a challenging rope course, zip line among the trees, take part in a kite flyer or race each other along the tubby track. More adventures include a discovery dig, climbing wall, mazes and more. Be sure to schedule this site on a day with lower rain chances as all the adventures are outside.
