Things to do in Paris in July
With sunshine almost guaranteed every day, July is a great month to hit the park. Jardin des Tuileries is the oldest and largest park in Paris, located in between Place de la Concorde and the Louvre.
Created by Catherine de Medicis in 1564 and opened to the public in 1667, today the park features statues created by Giacometti, Rodin and Maillol, several gardens dedicated to royalty, fountains, two ponds and the Musée de l'Orangerie set in the south-west section of the park, where visitors can admire the artwork of Monet.
Between June and August, the Jardin des Tuileries features an amusement park with loads of rides and attractions, whilst from March to December, free tours of the park are organised, although they're only in French.
Le Marais
If you want to get out and about for a bit of exploring, head on over to Le Marais. This lively neighborhood has regained its popularity after falling into disrepair following the French Revolution and is now home to shops, boutiques and kiosks where you can window shop or pick up some gifts for friends and family back home. If you get tired of retail therapy, stop by one of the many cafes, bars and restaurants where
you can savour the local French cuisine. Also names the Jewish Quarter, enjoy the many falafel shops and kiosks around the area. On the other hand, if you don't want to splash out, you can simply wander the cobbled streets, soaking up the Parisian atmosphere.
Centre Pompidou
Art lovers won't want to pass up the opportunity to visit the Centre Pompidou. Located in the 4th arrondissement, this impressive structure is comprised of exposed pipes, air ducts and primary colours which make it one of the best-known landmarks in the city.
The inside of the museum is even more impressive and houses the most important modern art museum in Europe with more than 50,000 works of art from 5,000 artists, as well as a library, cinema and various performance spaces.
There are plenty of child-friendly activities held here, including workshops for children aged 12 and under on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as workshops for children aged 13-16.
Pere-Lachaise Cemetery
is the most-visited cemetery in the world. Here you'll find 69,000 extravagant tombs of the rich and famous, all of which are peppered throughout a 44 hectare garden. Some of the most popular graves at this site include those of Chopin, Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison.
If you visit, don't forget to pick up one of the handy free guides from the conservation office which tell you where you can find all the most noteworthy graves. Although it sounds quite a grim activity, Pere-Lachaise Cemetery is a pleasure to visit on a bright and sunny July day.
