Paphos is a coastal city in the south-west of Cyprus, and is the capital of the Paphos district, and houses Paphos International Airport, which is the second biggest airport on Cyprus. The economy of Paphos is strongly dependent on tourism and has four main resorts: Kato Paphos, Coral Bay, Latchi, and Aphrodite Hills. The city is particularly well-served by reliably lovely weather (for much of the year) and a large number of historic sites and attractions, arts and sports making it a popular holiday destination.
Paphos contains a large number of good restaurants, although there are also some variable ones, so it is important to choose wisely. Those after taverns and Cypriot and/or Greek cuisine are especially well-catered for, while there are also many Italian, European and international restaurants that are consistently highly-rated. The output of Asian restaurants is variable - there are some good Japanese restaurants for example, but not many reliable Thai restaurants.
Those after a British-style experience are also well-covered, as there are many restaurants that sell British-style pub food and English breakfasts of high quality at reasonable prices, and some offer wi-fi and broadcasts of sporting events. There are also some good grill outlets and also some good snack bars, for those who would rather have just a quick and light bite to eat while enjoying the surroundings.
Cypriot cuisine
Many restaurants offer great Greek cuisine, which is very similar to Cypriot cuisine, while there are also some good outlets that focus on locally-produced food. The Seagull Restaurant at 5, Posidonos Avenue, Paphos sells some good Mediterranean options, and boasts a good view overlooking the Port. The Andria Restaurant at 8575 Coral Bay Ave, Peyia is good for romantic and business occasions and serves many local as well as international menu options. The Sienna Restaurant at Chlorakas Avenue, Panareti's Court 3 has a good selection of Cypriot food and is just moderately expensive.
There are many excellent Greek restaurants, including the Laona Restaurant at 6 Votsi Street, Paphos, which is well-regarded for its service, meats and wines as well as Greek food. The Windmill Restuarant at 19,Paphias Aphrodite's Street is an inexpensive family-run restaurant which specialises in Greek cuisine. Mother's Restaurant at Apostolou Pavlou, Vasilika Centre, is another good Greek option. The Alkion, at 5 Agios Antonios, Kata Paphos, and Happy Island, situated at Poseidonos Avenue, are other good Greek restaurants.
There are also some taverns that serve Cypriot cuisine, including the Konia Village Tavern, at Griva Digeni 48, Konia Village, and Mandra Tavern, at 4, Dionysou Street, Kato Paphos, and Fettas Tavern, located at Ioanni Agroti 33, Ktima.
Taverns
Paphos is notable for its large number of high-quality taverns. Akis Taverna at Acheleia on the old road to Paphos Airport is a relatively cheap and high-quality tavern which sells barbeque food as well as European, Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. The 7 St. George's Tavern, situated at Georgiou Kleanthous 17, Kathikas, is of high quality and serves good Greek, Mediterranean, vegetarian and organic foods. Archontariki, at Polis, serves Cypriot, Greek and international cuisine and features bouzouki live music on Friday nights. The Farmhouse Tavern at 51 Tomb of the Kings Road is particularly well-regarded for its lamb kleftiko.
The Konia Village Tavern, at Griva Digeni 48, Konia Village, is a budget Tavern which sells a range of Cypriot foods and grills. Mandra Tavern, at 4, Dionysou Street, Kato Paphos, sells a range of high-quality, mainly Cypriot, cuisine. Fettas Tavern, located at Ioanni Agroti 33, Ktima, serves some good Cypriot food and some well-regarded honey doughnuts. The Letymbou Tavern at Ellados 40, Letymbou Village, is also worth considering and sells mainly Greek cuisine. Also consider Michael's Tavern at 11 Kleus Street for its good Greek cuisine.
European
European cuisine options in Paphos are many and varied. The Akis Taverna at Acheleia on the old road to Paphos Airport has European dining options at low prices. The Fresh Restaurant at Aristo Coral Bay Complex, Laxion sells some good European food. The Mar Bianco Cafe at Pafinia 11-13, Poseidonos Avenue, serves good European cuisine and overlooks the nearby sea. Those who would prefer a European-style snack, rather than a large dinner, can consider Tea for Two at 6 Poseidonos Street. Fans of French cuisine can consider the Gabor French Restaurant, situated at 65 Poseidonos Avenue.
There are also many Italian restaurants to consider in Paphos. Porto Bello, located at 67 Poseidon Avenue, is a good option on the main coast road, which serves high-quality Italian food. Cavallini, also situated at Poseidonos Avenue, is quite expensive but serves a large variety of good Italian menu options. Rimini Restorante Italiano, at Danaes Triangle, serves large portions of Italian food and the owners provide guests with some entertainment. Duomo Ristorante Italiano at the corner of Vasilissis Verinikis and Tombs of the kings Road is also good, and is reputed to have a very large menu to choose from. Also consider the Pizzaria Italiena La Sardegna da Gino at 70 Ap. Pavlou for its good selection of special pizzas.
British
There are many popular British-style restaurants to choose from in Paphos, including options that sell traditional cooked English breakfasts and Sunday roast dinners. Tea for Two at 50 Tombs of the Kings Road is handy for the Tombs of the Kings attraction, and sells English breakfasts and many British-style meals, with large portions at relatively low prices. Tiffilly's Restaurant at 34 Griva Degenis offers home-cooked British style food in a family-run restaurant and is particularly good for breakfasts and lunches. The Camares Restaurant Cafe-Bar at 3-4 Poseidonos Avenue, has a varied menu and serves numerous breakfast options.
The Evis Pub Restaurant at 3 Cleous Street, the organisers of which also arrange a jeep safari trip, features frequent evening entertainment and serves British-style pub food including hamburgers and pizzas. Tramps, located at 52 Tombs of the Kings Road, is a high-rated restaurant which offers Greek as well as British foods and has TVs around the bar broadcasting sporting events. For those after a snack rather than a big dinner, Hot Cup Cafe at Poseidosos Avenue 52 serves mainly snack food but also with a selection of pub meals.
Asian
Fans of Asian cuisine are also well-catered for in Paphos and the surrounding area, although it is lacking in good Thai restaurants. The Syrian Restaurant at Pafias Afroditis 14 serves tasty Middle Eastern cuisine, and the Oliveto Restaurant sells sushi food in addition to French, Mediterranean and international options. Samisen at Coral Bay Avenue also serves a good variety of Japanese food, and Wabi Sabi at 33 Coral Bay Road, Paphos is an attractive sushi restaurant and sometimes features a Tepanaki show.
There are some good Chinese options, which include Chloe's Chinese Restaurant at 13 Posidonos Avenue, Tombs of the Kings Avenue, and the Xiang Gong Chinese Restaurant at 65 Posidonos Avenue, Paphos, and The Mandarin Palace at Poseidonos Avenue 77, Paphos. Koi is quite a well-received Thai restaurant.
Those who like Indian cuisine can consider the New Delhi Palace at 28 Poseidonos Avenue in Paphos. The Jayanta Indian Restaurant at Theoskepastis 7, Paphos is another good and reasonably-priced Indian option. Koh-i-noor at 110 Tombs of The Kings Road is also highly regarded.
International
There are many good restaurants in and around Paphos that sell international cuisine. Tweedies, at Spyrou Kyprianou, Kissonerga, is owned by a British couple and stocks local kolios wines, as well as a range of good international menu options. Jordan's, situated at Cleious 7, Kato Paphos, sells various international options. The Krasares Restaurant, at 1 Krasari Street, Kissonerga, serves mainly international and local foods.
The Anesi Restaurant at Agiou Georgiou Avenue 118 is very close to the popular Coral Bay and offers good international cuisine and has good outdoor seating facilities. Also consider Tommy Tuckers, situated at Kyracou Adamou, Chloraka, which contains free wi-fi and a beer garden. The Almond Tree at 5 Konstantias Street serves a variety of menu options and is particularly highly-regarded for its meats.
The Romantica Restaurant, situated at Kato Paphos, is a particularly good option for romantic occasions, and the organisation also helps with wedding plans. Another lovely restaurant for a wedding or romantic occasion is the Zaffron Restaurant, at 110 Tomb Of the Kings Road.
Fine dining
There are many top fine dining restaurants in Paphos and the surrounding area to choose from. The Agapinor Restaurant at 7 Constantias Street, Paphos is a good family-owned fine dining restaurant which offers set meals at reduced prices, while the food is consistently of a high quality. Vilkari Peyia at Peyia can only be accessed via a rocky single track road but offers pretty views in a grapevine setting and serves some seriously moreish chunky chips.
The Ficardo Restaurant at Poseidnos Avenue 50 is particularly suitable for romantic occasions and weddings, and serves a variety of good international food. The 7 St. George's Tavern, situated at Georgiou Kleanthous 17, Kathikas, serves a range of Greek, Mediterranean, vegetarian and organic foods. Metaxas, at 8 Amfitrionos, is an Italian/Cypriot restaurant which serves some in-house specials and is highly-rated for its service. Zaza at 10 Kleious Street, Kato Paphos, serves excellent wines and large portions, though note that it is often closed in the winter half-year.
Cafes & snack bars
The Pinguino Cafe at Dionisou and Posedonos Ave, Kato Paphos, serves some tasty snacks and breakfasts, coffees and cocktails, from morning until midnight. The Muse Cafe Kitchen Bar at Mousalla has very good views over the sea front, background music, and serves a variety of cocktails and some snack/pub food (note that the portions reputed to be large). Tea for Two at 6 Poseidonos Street serves a variety of snacks.
The True Bliss Juice Bar at Shop 6, Efstahiou Complex, 28 Tombs of the Kings Road sells some good cheap snack food and desserts, smoothies and yoghurt ice creams. Also consider the Coral King at Coral Bay Avenue, which serves many good cocktails and pub food. The Hot Cup Cafe at Poseidosos Avenue 52 serves mainly snack food but also with a selection of pub meals.
Seafood & grills
Paphos is quite a good outlet for seafood and grills. Most of the restaurants that sell local cuisine (Greek as well as Cypriot) have a wide range of seafood available on the menu, and there are also many good grill food outlets. The Aqui Cafe Bar Cyprus at Coral Bay Road is great for seafood, steaks and grills, and booking is advised, particularly at weekends. It boasts wines and good sea and mountain views. The Almond Tree at 5 Konstantias Street serves a variety of menu options including some good steaks, pork and seafood.
The Lodge Steak & Seafood Co. at 52 Poseidonos Avenue has a focus on Mediterranean and African-themed grills, including the likes of chicken piri piri. Also well worth a look is the Fiesta Bar & Grill, located at Avanti Village, which provides bar food and some good grills. The Grill Garage at 8 Dionysiou Street serves many grills and burgers which are highly-rated by customers. Lichnari Tavern at Danaes Avenue, Olympia Complex is good for both seafood and grills, with an emphasis on Greek food, and is quite inexpensive. The Ocean Village at Avanti Village is a highly-rated fish restaurant with a wide variety of fish platters, with local and Japanese options, among others.
