Panama Canal is very pleasant to visit with high temperatures all year round, though during August you will find yourself deep into the wet season. If you like rain as well as hot sunshine, you will be just fine! How much rain are we talking? Around 276mm will fall, which may not be as much as in some other months it's far less than you would see in November but it is still a large amount. This also falls over 18 days, which means that more than half of the month is sure to be wet. You can still very much enjoy your holiday, however, and get a tan so do not panic!

Panama is indeed known for having very hot weather, and there is a reason for that. The daily temperature even at this time of year stands at an average of 27°C. Highs can go up to a very nice 31°C, with lows only dropping as far as 23°C. This makes for a great atmosphere no matter what you want to do, and if you want to head to the beach, be prepared for fantastic swimming conditions as well.

The average sea temperature is 28°C, which is warm by anyone's standards. Taking a dip here is like having the ocean as your own personal heated swimming pool! Do remember to keep an eye on the weather forecast, however. Conditions can change from sun to rain rapidly, and what is more, there are only 6 hours of sunshine a day. Swimming after dark is not advisable, and you should also be careful to look out for warning flags at the beach telling you whether it is safe to go into the waves. This also means that there is less time to get out and about in the sun, so plan your days accordingly for the best holiday.

The Gran Hotel Soloy & Casino underwent recent renovation, making it a great place for you to try out in August. It offers a swimming pool, restaurant, and bar. You can also enjoy well-appointed rooms and personalised attention from the staff.

The Hotel Acapulco may not look like much from the outside, but it is well rated by guests and has a lot to offer. Wi-Fi is free in all rooms, and there are a restaurant and bar on site so that you can get everything you need very easily.

The Hotel Lisboa is another option very close by. It's located in a busy area where you can explore shops, local landmarks, and restaurants at your convenience. There is a restaurant here too, as well as comfortable and cheerful rooms.

The average sea temperature, as we mentioned above, is 28°C, so this means you have a prime opportunity to get into the water. If you are staying in Panama City, you will find that the closest beach is Coronado. This is a bit of a peculiar beach because it was actually developed alongside a gated community, complete with a golf course. You have to go through the main gates to reach it, but don't let that put you off.

You can easily stay here all day, as a multitude of cafes and restaurants line the shore. You can also pick up snacks and supplies in the grocery stores of this area, so you can always rely on having exactly what you need. They will even stock buckets and spades, beach towels, and other necessary paraphernalia for a day at the beach.

Don't let the name fool you: at the Villa Palma Restaurant & Bar, you will not be eating pub food. This is local cuisine done to the highest standard, with presentation to the highest possible levels. After your meal, you can head to the rooftop bar; those who are feeling extravagant can enjoy breakfast here as well.

Vegetarians will want to spend every night at the Veggie Moon Vegetarian & Sea Food Restaurant. While you will have to carefully avoid the fish, many items on the menu are perfectly suitable. Pastas and gourmet wines are a highlight here. You will find this to be a very upmarket restaurant with good standards.

Dodo is a delicatessen serving breakfast and lunch for those who want a relaxed bite to eat. This quaint eatery serves small plates which are put together beautifully and will always satisfy. Their wine menu is also noteworthy for those who wish to indulge in the afternoon!

With the higher rainfall in August, it is perhaps better to try some activities that can be done indoors. The Panama Interoceanic Canal Museum is a good place to try, particularly if you have your family with you, as it is suitable for all ages. Here you will see exhibits which teach you all about the canal and its importance in the history of Panama. There are even plays and interactive exhibits which you can watch and enjoy!

If you love a bit of shopping, head to the Multiplaza Pacific Mall. Even if you do not want to buy anything, it's great to wander through this mall and if you have some cash to spend, all the better. You will find luxury and high class brands here, such as Hugo Boss, Paul Smith, Polo Ralph Lauren, Roberto Cavalli, Emporio Armani, Cartier, and much more. Perfect for picking up some bargains on brands you can show off back home.
