Types of Holidays

Turkey is a popular holiday destination and with flights from England taking approximately five hours, it isnât too far away for a quick break.

However, it is probably long enough to put people off travelling for just a weekend, making it more ideally suited to holidays that last a week or more.

Best Time to Go

Ovacik has warm weather for much of the year, with summer temperatures peaking at a hot 34°C.

January is the coldest month of the year, with an average low of 6°C and average high of 15°C, which is extremely respectable by anyoneâs standards.

February is slightly warmer, with an average high and low of 16°C and 7°C respectively.

Temperatures continue to climb steadily and by April the average high is above 20°C.

The peak is in July, when the high can reach 34°C and the low 23°C. The temperatures then slowly decrease, although still get above 20°C in November, until December when they go down to average 17°C as a high and 8°C as a low.

January and December are the wettest months of the year with 11mm rain, while June through September barely get any rain at all.

The summer months are therefore best for those looking for the most ideal weather, but it can be too hot for some. For warm weather and low rainfall, March, May and November may be the best option.

Sights to See

Ovacik is an extremely beautiful village and one of its main attractions is the mountainous background.

The mountains provide a great excursion for a day out and, if you decide to climb them, the panoramic views are second to none.

There is also the Fethiyeâs Hellenistic theatre. Fethiye itself is situated upon the ancient city of Telmessos, and the ruins can still be seen to this day. The Hellenistic theatre is by the main quay and dates back to the second century.

If youâre willing to travel a bit further, then the Greek island of Meis is worth visiting. Located 58km away from Ovacik, itâs a popular place with the expat residents of Kas. The island is open for exploration and the oceanic views are breath taking.

Activities

Exploring the mountains is obviously one activity that can be enjoyed, but for something less exerting, the Grand Ucel Hotel Water Park may be a good choice. The Grand Ucel Hotel has a water park on its premises that is open to non-residents, so even if youâre staying elsewhere you can still enjoy the park. With a kidsâ playground, multiple slides for every age and a caf©, itâs a fun and enjoyable day out for the whole family.

Beaches

Olu Deniz is four kilometres from Ovacik and there are plenty of buses running between the two places.

Olu Deniz has a beautiful clean water pebble and sand beach with a fresh water lagoon.

The beach has a range of sports including volleyball and water sports such as jet skiing, water-skiing, snorkelling and surfing, as well as canoeing and kayaking.

On the journey from Ovacik to Olu Deniz you will pass privately owned beaches that can be accessed for a fee, or you can even rent accommodation that provides private beach space.

Nightlife

Ovacik itself does not have a burgeoning nightlife scene. As a relatively small resort, there isnât much activity after dark.

There are some bars and restaurants of course, and some of the hotels and resorts have their own night entertainment for guests, but little goes on in the village itself.

This is already changing though, thanks to an increase of tourists, so the nightlife is starting to grow.

However, there is also much going on in the local areas such as Hisaronu, which has bars, restaurants and some nightclubs for drinking and dancing. Being only 20 minutes away by foot, Hisaronu is ideal for people staying in Ovacik to venture for a night out.

Accommodation

The Blue Pearl Hotel & Apartments is worth considering for anyone going to Ovacik. With prices starting at just £24 a night, itâs ideal for anyone travelling on a budget, especially as it comes with amenities such as a swimming pool, restaurant, free parking, shuttle bus service and free Internet. The 14 double rooms available have air conditioning and a balcony with a view of the pool.

Celay Hotel is a modern hotel in Hisaronu. All of the rooms overlook the large swimming pool (which has a separate childrenâs section). The hotel has a bar, restaurant, private parking and a garden, and all of the rooms have air-conditioning and a balcony. There are also acitivities like billiards, table tennis, a fitness centre, Jacuzzi (indoors and outdoors), steam room, and entertainment nights.

The Gonul Hotel is another good option for visitors. There is a swimming pool and separate pool for kids, both of which are enveloped by a sun terrace complete with loungers, parasols and gardens. There is a restaurant offering indoor and outdoor dining, and amenities such as pool tables, dartboard, table tennis and a play area for the kids.
