Opatija is a town in the west of Croatia. The town is situated at the foot of Uka Mountain. It is a popular holiday resort, especially during winter and summer. Opatija enjoys hot summers yet chilly but fairly mild winters. It has four distinct seasons throughout the year, differentiated by temperature with no extremes of weather. Rainfall is not too frequent or extreme, particularly during the summer months. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Summer is typically the hottest time of year in Opatija when temperatures can reach around 30°C. However, visitors are given a break from the hot rays of sunshine as the average low temperature can drop to around 19°C, so it is not uncomfortably hot. Visitors are still recommended, nonetheless, to bring sun cream to avoid burning. Rainfall is light during the summer months, with up to only eight days of precipitation each month at only 90 millimetres of rain. Tourists often visit Opatija during summer.
Autumn is typically a cooler season compared to the summer months. However, temperatures are still pleasant as visitors may catch a bit Croatian sunshine, particularly throughout September when the average high temperature can reach up to around 24°C. As the months draw on, the days draw shorter and colder and may drop to below to 10°C. Autumn receives more rain than summer with up to twelve precipitation days and with up 181 millimetres of rain in total throughout the month. Autumn is the wettest time of year in Opatija. To stay dry, visitors are advised to pack some waterproof clothing and check the weather forecast before their arrival in Opatija. If the weather is pleasant enough, visitors can stroll around the rocky and picturesque sea coast for exploration in peace during the autumn months.
Although winter is typically the coldest time of year in Opatija, visitors still come to the pretty Croatian town for their holidays. Opatija's winter climate is a cool one, when the average low temperature can drop to 3°C. The average high temperatures for the winter months are still relatively chilly, at around 10°C. Visitors are advised, therefore, to bring warm layers of clothing with them for their stay. It is not all bad news though; winter is a drier time of year compared to autumn, with up to 10 days of rain.
Spring is the time when the sun starts to come out again and shine its rays once more upon Opatijaâs terrain, ranging from a cool 13°C to a pleasant 23°C. Temperatures can still be rather cool, however, so visitors are still advised to come prepared for the not-so-hot temperatures. Opatijaâs town park Angiolina is a beautiful place to visit in the spring months, when many species of plants, from all over the world, flower. For these plants to grow, however, rain needs to (and does!) fall upon the grounds and so umbrellas still come in handy during springtime, with up to 123 millimetres of rainfall each month.
