What's the weather like in Ocho Rios in June

Due to its tropical climate, Ocho Rios experiences a lots of rain and June is no exception.

Rainfall

During the month 13 rainfall days are expected, with an average rainfall of 97mm falling. While this may seem like a lot, most rain showers that occur typically only last for 1-2 hours (if that).

Sunshine Hours

So there is still plenty of sunshine available, during an average 9 sunshine hours per day, to get out and about enjoying various attractions and beaches.

Hurricanes

Ocho Rios sits within the Atlantic hurricane belt, with the hurricane season officially beginning in June. Whilst the resort rarely receives the full brunt of hurricanes, there is still a risk and visitors should keep this in mind when booking their holiday. Hurricanes aside, if you are a fan of warm temperatures, June is the best month to visit seeing as it is the hottest month of the year for Ocho Rios.

Temperature

Average temperatures expected in June are 29°C. The warmest parts of the day receive average high temperatures of 31°C, and the cooler evenings dip to an average of 26°C. With these higher temperatures it is very important to maintain your water intake, as you will very easily become dehydrated. If your resort room has air-conditioning, it will also help make the evenings a little more bearable.

Sea Temperature

You may also be able to find some relief from the heat by taking a dip in the sea, an average sea temperature of 28°C is expected at this time of year. June is one of the windiest days of the year, expecting a 53% chance of windy days throughout the month. An excellent opportunity if you enjoy sail based water sports such as yachting or windsurfing, not so great if you plan on spending the day snorkelling - the wind can create choppy water that mixes up sand and sediment, reducing visibility in the water.

Wind

The wind has the added benefit of helping you feel a little cooler, by bringing in the cooler ocean air during the day.

Ocho Rios Beaches in June

Sun, sand, surf and palm trees sums up the beach at the Jamaica Grande. Approximately 5 minutes from central Ocho Rios, the beach is private and can only be accessed by guests of the hotel. Guests are welcome to use a full range of non-motorized water sports or the provided beach chairs and umbrellas. Nearby, you will find a host of amenities including restaurants and bars as well as the resorts private pools.

Bars and Restaurants

If you want to experience authentic Jamaican cuisine, complemented with beautiful views and ocean breezes, be sure to visit Oceans on the Ridge. Defining themselves as "the Caribbean's newest and most breath-taking venue", Oceans on the Ridge is the perfect place to enjoy a meal at any time of the day! Because of the restaurants location being slightly elevated, the air usually feels a little cooler and sometimes takes the edge off the summer heat experienced in the town area.

10 minutes' drive east of Ocho Rios, hidden away in one of the few remaining natural scenic bays, Sugarpot Ruins Beach Bar & Restaurant is a small restaurant with plenty of character. The restaurant specializes in local and seafood dishes. Adding to the experience and keeping it authentic, the food is prepared as per Jamaican tradition, on an open fire. You will also have first-class seats to a beautiful view of the bay from the restaurant.
