After a good deal of dry weather and warm sunshine for much of the UK over the last few days, there is a change in the forecast as we head towards the weekend.

Weekend weather…
The change will come from both the southwest and the northwest. Yesterday saw cloudier conditions and outbreaks of rain spreading from the southwest, then overnight a separate front has brought cloud and rain from the north across Scotland and Northern Ireland. This will then edge southwards into northern England during today (Saturday) and Sunday. Ahead of the front, across the rest of England and Wales, there will be a mixture of bright spells and some heavy showers throughout the weekend, with hail and thunder a risk.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Chris Tubbs, said: “After a warm and sunny start to April for most of us, the change to cooler, more unsettled weather will be a real feature of the weather this weekend and also into next week. However, this change is fairly typical of spring weather, with some April showers on the way”.
London Marathon
The 35th London Marathon takes place this Sunday. The forecast has been rather uncertain, as it is dependent on how quickly the front in the north moves southwards. At this stage, it looks most likely to be rather cloudy with outbreaks of rain, which will be heavy at times, but we will provide a more detailed forecast for the marathon in the coming days on our events pages.
Next week…
Into next week, conditions will be colder than of late, with temperatures below average for everyone, and feeling noticeably colder than recent days, especially in rain and stronger winds.
