Newquay located on the west coast of England in Cornwall. Newquay is an easy place to stay for a quick weekend getaway, but with plenty on offer should you want to make a longer holiday out of it.
Best Time to Go
Being a coastal town with great beaches itâs advisable to go during the summer months, between June and September, to take advantage of the coast and the best weather for the year.
However, the town has a range of events on throughout the year so thereâs always something to do, no matter when you visit.
Sights to See
Thereâs plenty of scenery to take in in Newquay.
Around Holywell Bay you can walk along rocky headlands, large dunes, a tidal estuary and see some of the local wildlife.
Or you can go towards Padstow and see some breath-taking cliffs and surfing beaches.
You can also pick up the Newquay Discovery Map, which will take you on a walking tour of the city while learning about its history.
Activities
There is much to do in Newquay, regardless of whether youâre enjoying a couplesâ retreat or having a family holiday.
One great way to see the city and make your way around is on a bicycle and itâs easy to hire one and explore the area.
Visitors can also enjoy the Cornwall Waverunner Safaris to explore the coastline on the back of a jet ski, or try rock climbing.
The Newquay Activity Centre is an excellent place to spend time as you can learn surfing and bodyboarding. The centre is open all year so it doesnât matter when your holiday takes place.
Those with more energy can visit the Heron Tennis Centre or try the riding stables.
The Lusty Glaze Adventure Centre provides everything from jet skiing to coasteering to childrenâs activities- thereâs something for everyone.
If you want something more focused on the children, then Waterworld or Trenance Crazy Golf and Pitch and Putt Courses provide fun for all the family.
Beaches
If youâre after a beach holiday, few places will offer you a better holiday than Newquay.
Located on an outstanding coastline there are many wonderful beaches on offer, and they all have their own qualities â" whereas some are ideal for walking, others have the perfect sand for making sandcastles while others are perfect for surfing â" whether youâre a novice or advanced.
Watergate Bay Beach provides two miles of golden sand and perfect water and is an ideal place for those who want to surf or just sunbathe. The beach is a 15-minute drive from the Newquay town centre.
Towan Beach is next to the quay and is the most sheltered beach to be found in Newquay â" perfect for spending time with the family or for time away from the other tourists. Itâs only a one-minute drive from the town centre.
Nightlife
It isnât all beaches and walking in Newquay. Once the sun goes down thereâs still plenty of fun to be had.
Newquay has it all on offer at night, from traditional pubs to bars for more drinking and listening to music into the small hours of the morning.
There are numerous bars and cafes situated along the cliffs, so you can enjoy spectacular views with your drinks.
As far bars go, thereâs everything from the Wetherspoons to Walkabout, as well as some Newquay-specific hangouts, such as the Newquay Arms, and the Sailors Arms Pub and Club.
There are also various live music venues around showcasing both local and international acts.
Newquay has nine nightclubs for you to choose from, two of which are on Beach Roadalone.
Bar Help, situated in Central Square, is a lively bar with nightly music, as well as sporting events, quizzes and karaoke nights.
The Beach Nite Club, one of the two clubs on Beach Road, is for the true party people. Featuring hot tub parties, foam parties, ladiesâ nights and lively music â" including Ministry of Sound DJs â" there are few better ways to spend your nightlife.
Accommodation
When it comes to staying in Newquay, you will find everything from guest houses and bed and breakfasts to hotels and self-catering, not to mention surf lodges and holiday parks.
Hillcrest is a surf lodge with en-suites, free parking, free Wi-Fi, a wide selection of rooms, and a full English breakfast thrown in. Thereâs also the Reef Surf Lodge in the middle of Newquayâs town centre, and the rooms boast flat-screen televisions, CD players and modern en-suites.
If you want to get back to basics in Newquay, you can rent a caravan or pitch a tent at the Holiday, Touring & Camping Park in Holywell Bay. The Holywell Bay Beach will provide you with caves, dunes and surf.
