What's the Weather Like in Nassau in October

October is the peak month of the Atlantic hurricane season, and although Nassau is relatively sheltered from the brunt of any storms which occur, it is always sensible to be on the safe side. If a storm or hurricane does occur, the island overall is very well prepared and it is simply a case of staying indoors until the weather passes and listening to advice from your hotel staff. Storms very rarely last for too long too.

Rainfall

The good news at this time of year is that rainfall is on the downward spiral now, compared to the previously wet months which have just passed. You can expect an average rainfall level of around 140mm, which is much less than previously, and this falls to some degree across 15 days of the month. This is also a popular time to visit for those who prefer slightly lower temperatures, as the extreme heat of the peak summer months has abated slightly.

Temperature

The average temperature during this month is around 26°C, which is a comfortable level for getting out and about. Of course, the peak sun hours during mid-afternoon bring greater heat, and the average high temperature can hit the 30°C mark. Evenings are thankfully slightly cooler, although air conditioning will still be needed, as the evening low is only around 22°C.

Sunshine Hours

There is no month of the year in The Bahamas that doesn't bask in plentiful sunshine, and this month sees an average of 8 hours of sunshine per day on average, which goes hand in hand with a wonderfully warm sea temperature average of around 28°C. The crowds on the beaches will have reduced slightly at this time, which makes for the ideal conditions for a beach day on one of those iconic Caribbean beaches.

Nassau Hotels in October

Orchard Garden Hotel

For a place to stay with a home away from home feel check out Orchard Garden Hotel. Located just 400 metres from the beach, this particular hotel is small with a homely authentic feel. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the building, and a continental breakfast on offer to start your day. The outdoor pool is large, and there are BBQ facilities for something a little bit different too.

Ocean West Boutique Hotel

Ocean West Boutique Hotel is another popular choice, and another one which isn't so big but offers plenty of home comforts for your cash. This particular hotel overlooks the sea, which seems to stretch on forever, and gives you double rooms with comfortable and spacious surroundings. In a quieter area, you can easily get to the busier parts of the city, but you can cut yourself off from everything a little easier too.

Marley Resort & Spa

For something a little larger and more resort in feel, there is Marley Resort & Spa. This is located right on Cable Beach, and has a huge outdoor pool, gardens, fitness centre, and full spa. This is ideal for those who don't want to travel too far to anything, and who truly want to chill out. Each room is uniquely decorated and there are family rooms available too.

Nassau Beaches in October

Saunders Beach

Energetic, vibrant, and busy with locals Saunders Beach is a great spot . The sand here is golden, and there are always groups and crowds (although not massively), no matter what day of the week.

Bars and Restaurants

The Poop Deck

There are certainly some fun beach shack restaurants in Nassau, and The Poop Deck is one of them. Sample some delicious soups and seafood, whilst chilling out on the white sand of the beach. All dishes are made from fresh ingredients, overlooking the marina too. Try the hog snapper or cracked conch, as just two suggestions.

Fat Tuesday Nassau

Fat Tuesday Nassau is another popular choice, located on Junkanoo Beach. This is a fun place, and the pizza comes much recommended. Check out the local beers at fantastic prices, free Wi-Fi, and basically a great location to chill out, cool off, and enjoy your time.

Crabs and Ting

The fantastically named Crabs and Ting is a must visit for seafood fans. Again, located right on the beach, this is a very authentic Bahamian beach restaurant, with strong drinks, beers, snacks, and delicious smoothies.

Things to Do in Nassau in October

Bahamas Outdoors

There is abundant wildlife and nature to explore in and around Nassau, and not all of it is water-related. Bahamas Outdoors offer many different nature tours, however the guided bird tour is one of the most popular. The Bahamas overall are home to countless species of colourful and interesting birds, and here you can enjoy a half day tour, heading out into the forests and countryside to spot many different species. Your helpful and knowledgeable guide is on hand to tell you more about anything you see.

Hartley's Undersea Walk

It's undeniable that much of the appeal of this particular part of the world is of course water-related, and Hartley's Undersea Walk is a fantastic way to explore it. Don your oxygen helmet and walk on the ocean bed, again with the help of the guide, walking amongst the famous and colourful marine life of the island. You will be given time to get used to the helmet, as well as instruction before you go, so nothing at all to worry about this is a true once in a lifetime experience.

Cultural Museum Art Exhibits

Staying on dry land, you can easily learn a little about the island too, and Cultural Museum Art Exhibits is the ideal place to head. This is one of the most prestigious art galleries in Nassau, and they are trying to encourage more people to attend and learn about the local art and culture of the island. The museum is thankfully air conditioned, which is a welcome break from the heat or a possible shower, and you can appreciate the culture and traditions of the place you're visiting.
