Mykonos Beaches for December

Korfos Beach is located 2.5 km south of Mykonos town and is a great beach for wind surfing but not a good swimming beach. There are many eateries and taverns nearby. The beach can be lovely and peaceful in the colder months and a great place for a quiet walk on a fine day.

Agia Anna is a small and quiet beach even in summer and in winter a nice sandy beach for walks. There is a small tavern nearby for a relaxing drink or snack.

Agios Ioannis is another small beach offering you great views of Delos located on the south west coast.

Houlakia Beach is a pebbled beach north of Mykonos town and not suited to swimming. This makes a good place for a winter walk on a clear or fine day. Sunsets are amazing from this beach and the surrounding scenery makes for a pretty place to visit.

Bars and Restaurants

Like many popular holiday destinations, not every place is open in the winter months but enough people flock to Mykonos to still give you a great variety of places to eat and drink.

One of the most popular places is the Blu-Blu Lounge that is open all year from 9am to 4pm. It is located in the Old Port with views of the Aegean Sea. It is the largest Internet Cafe on the island so is a good place if you need to catch up with people back at home. There is a comprehensive menu of meals, snacks and drinks and a large TV to watch sporting events. The atmosphere is social casual.

A small cafe and bar in the winding streets of the Old Town is Cafe du monde. It is a great place for morning tea or brunch with excellent Greek coffee and great fruit smoothies.

The Coffee Cat is located in Agia Kiriaki Square in old town and is a great spot for coffee and drinks. If the weather is fine you can sit outdoors or on the veranda. As a late night bar this is an excellent spot and it has free Wi-Fi.

If you are looking for great Greek food the Barko Cafe Snack Bar is the place to go. One of the best Moussakas in Greece and right near the port. For traditional Greek food of excellent quality and a large range of sandwiches and snacks this is the place to visit.

Things to do in Mykonos in December

December is the ideal time to check out the many museums on the island of Mykonos and the Folklore Museum is located in the Kastro neighbourhood. It opened in 1958 and is a collection of many artefacts from the 19th century including historical photos showing life in earlier times. See furniture, ceramics and traditional musical instruments as well as the bedroom and kitchen both faithfully produced to look as if in the 19th century still. The hand embroidered works are a must see for the intricate patterns and needlework craftsmanship.

A visit to Mykonos is not complete without a visit to the Church of Panagia Paraportiana located in the Kastro neighbourhood. This church is significant as it is actually 5 churches that have been built on top or next to each other from the 14th century. The oldest is the  Agios Efstathios followed by the Agios Anargyros, Agios Anastasia and the Agios Sozon built in the 16th and 17th century. Renovations then continued until the latest in the 1920s. On the top is the dome of the Church of the Virgin Mary.
