What's the Weather Like in Montego Bay in September

Although we class September in Jamaica as typically Autumn, it would be silly to classify it as such, since the temperatures only seem to fluctuate by a degree or so from the height of classical summer.

Rain

Rain can be a problem during this time of year, and September averages 110mm of precipitation throughout the month, with 14 days seeing some rain, albeit in varying amounts.

Temperature

The average temperature during September is a very warm 28°C, with an average high of 31°C only 2 degrees less than the hottest month of the year. Therefore air-con is an absolute essential for the accommodation you're staying in. Dress lightly and bring plenty of sunscreen.

Average Sunshine Hours and Sea Temperature

Despite the higher rain level, the sun still shines in Montego Bay for a massive 10 hours per day, and the Caribbean Sea is still very warm indeed, with an average of 29°C, if you fancy a refreshing dip at one of the beaches around the long coastline.

Montego Bay Beach for September

Turtle Beach

Situated in the centre of Ocho Rios, Turtle Beach ranks as one of the island's finest beaches and deserves a visit if you're looking to explore the coastline beyond the resort. Known for its sweeping bay formation, this seaside spot features calm waters, fine sand and sheltering palm trees. Thanks to its central location, there are a range of amenities to make use of, such as showers, umbrellas and deckchair hire, not to mention water sports rental.

Bars and Restaurants

Houseboat Grill

An unconventional but recommended dining option in Montego Bay is the Houseboat Grill, which is a big hit among locals. As the name indicates, the restaurant occupies an old houseboat in a lagoon area, and is popular for its friendly service and menu which fuses tropical-themed starters and French-style mains, not to mention local lobster. Meanwhile, the bustling bar area stocks a quality range of liqueurs.

Richmond Hill

If you have a romantic night out planned, perhaps an anniversary or even a proposal, then head to Richmond Hill. This is where you will find views to blow your mind, right over the bay, and with food which is equally as good. Quite a classy establishment, and by no means the cheapest in the area, but certainly worth it for a special occasion.

China House & Dragon Court

If you want something more low-key however, then you can't beat some good Chinese fare. Two of the best Chinese restaurants in Montego Bay have to be China House and Dragon Court, which will satisfy all your Chinese food cravings.

Things to do in Montego Bay in September

Black River

A short journey away from YS Falls on the southern half of the island, Black River is a sight you'll want to see if you're keen to explore the lay of the land and the natural landscapes of Jamaica. Take a cruise down the river to observe the mangrove swamps, resident reptiles and array of tropical birds in their natural habitat.

Seville House

For a taste of local history, travel along the northern coast to the picturesque port town of St. Ann's Bay. Widely believed to be the first site of settlement by European invaders in the 1500s, this quaint village was also the birthplace of the Black Nationalist movement founder Marcus Garvey and today it's known for its bustling markets and handsome colonial architecture. Visit the historic Seville House, once a famous sugar cane plantation, to get a feel for what life would have been like on the island in times gone by.

Yaaman Adventure Park

Visitors young and old will find something to enjoy at Yaaman Adventure Park, which makes for a great day of family fun. This oceanfront park sits alongside the White River Gorge and bears significance as the site of the first hydroelectric power station. Furthermore, this is the site of one of the island's oldest plantations and tour guides bring the varied history of the estate to life. The range of activities available here is abundant and includes open-air carriage rides, camel treks, horseback riding, segway tour and the chance to feed the ostriches.
