Montego Bay is situated on Jamaica's northwest coast, with the inviting waters of the glittering Caribbean Sea lapping peacefully against its shores. Home to the largest international airport on the island, this is an undeniably busy spot, but it is one that is jam-packed with things to see and activities to do. Of course, the temperature and consistently good weather is a big draw with tourists.
Some of the world's most inviting and beautiful beaches are situated on Jamaica, some of which you'll find in Montego Bay. Perfect for a getaway during the winter months, the typically tropical climate of this region makes for a wonderful break from cooler temperatures elsewhere in the world. Of course, Jamaica is affected by the Atlantic Ocean hurricane season, and whilst during June to November there may be passing storms, Jamaica isn't typically in what is classed as the direct-hit zone. Therefore, it isn't as likely to suffer major problems as some of the other surrounding Caribbean islands invariably do. Humidity can be a problem throughout the year, especially during the hottest month of July.
Due to Montego Bay's location, on the northern coast of the island, it does experience a little more rain than the south, with a definite wet and dry season in place. May to October is when you can expect the most in the way of rain, with October and November being the wettest months. Downpours can be torrential at times, but they do tend to pass rather quickly, leaving behind sunny conditions once more. On the back of this, the dry season, especially during January to March, is when peak season hits Jamaica, with cruises visiting its shores in abundance, and those seeking winter sun flooding its beaches and filling its restaurants and bars.
Temperature
The average temperature during the spring months of March, April and May sits at a comfortable 26°C to 27°C, with an average low of 22°C. In May the high temperature can reach a balmy 30°C, working up to the summer season. Temperatures, it must be said, don't vary all that much throughout the whole year.
Rain
However, it is also getting closer to the wet season in Jamaica, so you can expect more rain as May hits. While March has an average of 30mm, May already receives 80mm, working out at around 13 wet days throughout the month.
Sunshine Hours
Because of Montego Bay's tropical location, just like the temperatures, the amount of sunshine doesn't vary significantly throughout the year. The sun shines for around 9 to 10 hours per day on average during the spring, which is only one hour above the annual low as well as one hour below the annual maximum. It's fair to say that the weather is comfortably stable in this region.
Sea Temperature
With a pleasant sea temperature of 27°C to 28°C, this is also a perfect for a spot of swimming or snorkelling.

Sunshine Hours
In summer, the sun shines for 10 to 11 hours per day on average.
Rain
This is still the wet season of course, with average totals of precipitation ranging between 60mm in July and 110mm in September, however downpours tend to be short-lived.
Rain
October is the year's wettest month in Jamaica, receiving around 130mm of rain throughout the month, spread out over 15 days with rainfall. November is the second-wettest month, with 120mm in total and 14 days with precipitation.
Temperature
Despite these relatively wet conditions however, the temperatures are still high, with an average of 26°C to 27°C throughout the season. The low temperature in October is very comfortable at 24°C during the evening; it is 23°C in November. Average afternoon highs are hot, ranging between 29°C and 30°C.
Sunshine Hours
It's also still quite sunny. The sun shines for 8 hours per day on average in both autumn months. This is despite the rain reducing this figure. The inviting waters of the Caribbean are a wonderful 29°C, which is as warm as they ever get.
Autumn is still a great time to enjoy water sports and escape the humidity that the hot, wet summer season can bring to the island.
Temperature
It may sound like a ridiculous idea to call December to February "winter", since Jamaica doesn't really experience the season like other parts of the world do. This is, however, in fact the coolest time of the year, with January and February hitting an average of 25°C. That being said; the afternoon high temperatures still reach up to a warm 28°C or 29°C throughout this season. Needless to say this is a very popular time to visit for those escaping traditional winter in other countries, and those heading off on Caribbean cruises.
Rain
The good news is that rain has reduced when winter hits, with an average of 70mm in January, and a lower amount still of 30mm in February. You can expect between 8 and 12 days with precipitation per month during this season.
Sunshine Hours
The sun still certainly shines brightly, with around 9 hours of sunshine per day throughout the seasonore sunshine than the wetter autumn season.
The period between December and the beginning of March is, in fact, arguably the best time of the year to visit Montego Bay. It is the driest season, there is plenty of sunshine to be enjoyed and temperaturesoth of the air and Caribbean Seare very, very warm indeed. This is why the resort is such a popular winter destination for people from colder and wetter climates.
Whatever month you decide to visit Montego Bay, you will be guaranteed an enviable suntan! Make sure to check out the weather forecast for any season variables.
