What's the Weather Like in Menorca in August

August is one of the hottest and driest times of the year to visit MenorcaBalearic Islands (Spain), when temperatures are incredibly high and rainfall is at a minimum. Since this month falls within the school holidays, the island will be very busy at this time of year and you'll probably find hotel and flight prices to be quite expensive.

If you have the option to travel outside of the school holidays, you're better off visiting in early July or late September. That way you can still enjoy the warm and dry summer weather, but won't have the hassle of bustling crowds or high prices that the summer months are known for. If you don't fancy blistering temperatures and little if any rainfall, you're best off visiting during spring, when the temperatures are milder and the odd cloudy day is common.

Temperature

In August, the average temperature for Menorca starts off at 25°C on August 1st and slowly falls until it reaches 24°C by August 31st. Daily highs and lows follow the same pattern, dropping from 29°C to 27°C and from 22°C to 21°C, respectively, as the month progresses.

As you can see, the average temperatures during this month are very high, which means you'll need to pack plenty of light and airy clothing in order to stay cool. A swim is a great way to cool off, so make sure you bring enough beachwear and swimming gear, too.

Even if you tan easily, it's still worth bringing sunglasses, hats and suntan lotion in order to avoid heatstroke and sunburn. Even though there is a substantial difference between the daytime and evening temperatures in Menorca, you probably won't need anything more than shorts, skirts, shirts and dresses to wear out on a night time.

Although it only happens on an average of once every ten days, temperatures in Menorca can sometimes rise above 31°C or fall below 18°C at this time of year. The coldest August day which has ever been recorded on the island is August 12th 2005, when temperatures as low as 13.6°C were registered. At the other end of the scale, August 12th 2003 is the hottest August day ever recorded, when temperatures as high as 36.6°C were registered.

Rain

Throughout August, Menorca is subject to an average of 23mm of rainfall that's 20mm more than in July which is divided between four rainy days. With such a small amount of rain occurring on so few days throughout the month, it's likely that you won't see a drop of the wet stuff at all during your holiday in Menorca.

If you are unfortunate enough to get some rainfall during your stay, it will most likely be thunderstorms, moderate rain or light rain. Even though heavy rain and drizzle are also possible during this month, you'll be happy to hear that they're a rare occurrence.

The likelihood of rainfall making an appearance on an average day in Menorca in August rises steadily as the month develops. Rainfall is least probable on August 1st, when it falls on 13% of days. On the other hand, rainfall is most likely on August 31st when it falls on 24% of days.

The highest monthly rainfall ever seen in Menorca in August is 140.6 l/m2 which occurred in 1997. The greatest number of rainy days the island has ever experienced in this month is 12 which happened in 1976. This temperature is perfect for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving, which is why you'll see so many sunbathers and swimmers on the beaches in Menorca at this time of year. Menorca Beach for August

Cala Pregonda is one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of Menorca. Located on the central northern coast, this bay is made up of soft golden sands lapped by clean aquamarine waters. The slope leading down to the water is very gentle and large waves are practically non-existent, making this beach a top choice amongst families with young children. Unfortunately, there is no onsite parking for the beach, so you'll have to park up in the nearby resort and walk there if you really want to visit. Due to its remote location, this beach has absolutely no facilities, so you'll need to take your own shade, food and drink with you. Be aware that there is also no lifeguard working here, so be careful when you're swimming.

Cala Presili is another popular beach worthy of a visit during your holiday in Menorca. Situated on the north eastern coast, this bay is a medium size, made up of a mixture of white and golden sands. The beach opens up to a wide turquoise bay which is perfect for swimming, snorkelling and diving. Although most of the beaches in Menorca are very busy during summer, Cala Presili is often relatively quiet in August, making it a great choice if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle. There are no real facilities here, so you'll have to bring everything with you that you'll think you'll need. Be aware: even though it's not officially a nudist beach, Cala Presili is often frequented by nudists.

Cala Alcaufar is another quiet bay to visit, away from the busier and more crowded beaches of the island. Found on Menorca's south east coast, this beach is made up of fine white sand flanked on either side by mini concrete harbours and rocks where boats regularly moor. Despite the number of boats in the area, the water is remarkably clean and clear, making this beach a top pick for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. There is a handful of services and facilities available here, such as sun loungers, sun shades, boat rental and pedalo hire, with a café-bar available just a short walk away.

Whilst you can walk around the site yourself, it's best to sign up for one of the tours if you really want to find out as much as you can about the area. Jazz lovers won't want to miss the chance to spend an evening at the Jazz Club in San Clemente the oldest jazz bar in Menorca.
