Mawanella is a rather large town located just east of central Sri Lanka. It is officially a part of the Kagalle district in the Sabaragamuwa Divisional Secretariat. The town enjoys a locale just north of the public market. Most of 111,000 people that populate Mawanella make their living through agriculture. Tourists enjoy the picturesque pottery shops and the local handicrafts. In addition the town is in very close proximity to the two week long Relic of the Sacred Tooth ceremony.
