Belle Mare Plage

Belle Mare Plage is a pristine 10km long white sand beach which is renowned across the island for its wealth of water sports such as windsurfing and scuba diving. There are also plenty of restaurants and bars situated close to this beach such as the renowned Lounge Bar at Constance le Prince Maurice.

La Preneuse

However, if you're looking for somewhere a bit more secluded make sure to try out La Preneuse, found 5km south of Tamarin. This small public beach is brilliant for snorkeling as there is a beautiful offshore coral reef nearby. The beach is also superb for swimming as the waters here are relatively calm throughout the year.

 

Things to Do in Mauritius in October

Vanille Reserve des Mascareignes

Furthermore, the "Vanille Reserve des Mascareignes" is a nature park located in the south of Mauritius in Riviere Des Anguilles. The park looks after a variety of reptiles, fish and animals including the Nile crocodile, Iguanas, Caimans, giant tortoises, monkeys, bats, carps and much more. Other attractions include the restaurant "Le Crocodile Affame", a gift shop, native plant nursery and a conservation centre, which aims to keep the number up of certain threatened species on the island including the giant tortoise.

Dates for the diary

The annual Ferney Trail Marathon takes place every year from October 2nd until November 2nd. Nestled in the heart of the mountain Bamboo, the Ferney Trail is one of the last natural sanctuaries left in Mauritius. Recognized for its wealth of natural space it was decided by the Mauritian government to set up an annual race for both locals and runners from across the globe to participate in. There are a number of different races varying in difficulty from 4km up to a grueling 35km.

Furthermore, Diwali is celebrated throughout October and November in the Hindu religious calendar to mark the victory of Rama over Ravana. It also commemorates Krishna's destruction of the Narakasuram demon. During this festival, it is tradition to set up small clay lamps along walls and balconies, which are then lit at sunset.
