October is the beginning of autumn in Malia. The resort is beginning to wind down for the winter and many of the main attractions, resorts and hotels will be closing in anticipation of the dwindling flow of tourists.
However, don't be deterred from planning a trip here at this time of the year. Though it is not the best time to visit if you want a holiday spent on the beach or taking advantage of the infamous nightlife, there's still plenty on offer here in October and you may well find you can take advantage of some off-season rates when it comes to booking your accommodation.
Many visitors prefer to schedule their trips at this time because it's less busy and the main 18-30 crowd have left by this time, making the resort more peaceful and quiet.
The Mediterranean climate may well still be warm enough at this time of the year to enjoy time spent on the beach.
If sunbathing isn't an option though, there are many equestrian centres in the area that will allow beginners and experienced riders alike to go for a horse ride along the shore. Horse riding is a very popular sport in Greece, so this is a great activity to try out while you're in Malia.
For those travelling to the area on a budget, try the Malia Mare Hotel. The hotel is located close to the centre of the resort and its low rates mean you can stay here regardless of your budget.
