August is a fantastic time of the year to visit Malia.

The hot and dry weather is ideal for hours spent on the beach and the infamous nightlife is in full swing.

This small coastal resort is the home to many of the country's most famous night spots and DJ's from all over the world make guest appearances on a regular basis to keep the party atmosphere fuelled.

Visitors will find that the 40-plus bars, clubs and pubs along the coast are all hopping.

Candy Club is Malia's biggest and most popular nightclub. The club often has the top names in the international music scene playing.

Corkers Club promises drinking games any night of the week. A night out here is guaranteed to be a messy one.

Away from the nightlife, there's plenty more to see and do in Malia.

Time spent on the beaches means more than just sunbathing, with an array of water sports on offer, including parasailing, jet skiing and banana boating.

This is the prime season for hiking and mountain climbing in Crete and guided tours of local climbing and hiking sites are readily available. The nearby Troodos Mountain range offers both exerting hikes and gentler walks, with the option to explore many of the traditional villages that reside there.

Tours, both guided and solo, of the waters around the area are also possible.

Dolphin spotting trips are popular with people of all ages and a great way to relax, unwind and see more of Crete's coastline.

Those in Malia for the nightlife should consider the Malia Mare Hotel when booking their accommodation. The budget hotel is located right by the strip, minutes away from the major bars and nightclubs, making it the perfect place to crash after a heavy night on the town.
