Getting a local guide for a couple of euros is a good idea so that none of the interesting, out of the way sights are missed.
For families, a visit to the Parc de la Tete d'Or is an inexpensive way to fill up an afternoon. There is no entrance fee to get into the park and visitors are free to wander around the rose and botanical gardens as well as walking around the lake. There is also a zoo for the kids to take in views of some exotic animals. Bicycles are available to rent. Be on the lookout for pink flamingos around the side of the lake!
