December is, along with February, the second coldest month of the year in Luxor, Egypt. The average temperature is just 15°C, with an average high of 23°C and low of 7°C, so jackets will definitely be needed as the day progresses. Rainfall is the same as November at 20mm, and 60% humidity makes December the most humid month of the year. It is not the sunniest month though receiving an average of nine hours of sun per day ties it with January as the dullest month of the year. This is not unusual weather, though, and Aswan is very similar.
The main event in December in Luxor is Victory Day, which occurs on the 23rd to commemorate the brave people who fought against Israel in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. To experience more of Egypt, it may be worth spending a little time in the car or train to reach Aswan, which is a historic town just south of Luxor. It is close to the Temple of Isis, and boasts such highlights as Elephant Island, the Northern Quarries (which have the unfinished obelisk) and the Aswan Dam.
