Scuba diving is an especially popular activity in Los Cristianos since the water is so clear and visibility is at a maximum compared to other diving locations all year long.

Los Cristianos is also quieter than some of the other Canary Islands in terms of partying; therefore, it is a good location for those who would like to avoid those crowds.

Similarly, it might also be a good place to stay for those who would like to take part in the active night life of the other islands but then return back to their own private paradise to recover the next day.

Los Cristianos Beach for July

Playa de Las Americas is without a doubt one of the most popular beaches in the south of Tenerife. This golden sand beach boasts crystal clear, calm waters, as well as kiosks selling refreshments and ice creams! There are also a wide variety of water sports available at this beach including surfing, snorkelling and sailing. But if you would rather stay on the sand, Playa de Las Americas also offers a volleyball court.

If you're planning on staying in Los Cristianos, of course the beach is only a stones throw away. This clean, golden sand beach can be found at the eastern end of Los Cristianos and is sheltered by a small harbor, making it perfect for young families as there are hardly any waves at this time of year.

Bars and Restaurants

If you ask the locals for their advice on where to go to for delicious authentic Canarian or Spanish food, it is highly likely they will recommend Meson Castellano. This simple yet delightful traditional Spanish restaurant boasts a fantastic reputation and can be found on the border of Los Cristianos and Playa de Las Americas. The menu offers an array of Spanish specialities including chorizo and succulent steaks.

On the other hand, if you're missing food from back home you may want to try the highly regarded New Yorker Restaurant, located in Los Cristianos. This popular restaurant has not been open for long, but has already established a superb reputation. This eatery serves international style dishes as well as an array of mouth-watering deserts.

If you're here on a girls or lads holiday you may want to go clubbing whilst staying in the area. If so, Tramps in Playa de las Americas is one of the most popular nightclubs in the whole of Tenerife, if not the Canary Islands. This popular nightclub has seen the likes of DJs from Judge Jules to Trevor Nelson.

Los Cristianos is a relatively quiet resort in the evenings, so if you're looking for lively night out you may be better off heading to Veronica's Strip in Playa de las Americas. O'Neill's is another popular club and bar that features an air-conditioned dance floor, as well as cage dancers and shot girls.

Things to do in Los Cristianos in July

The wet n' wild Siam Park is an attraction the whole family can enjoy together. This Thai-themed water park features an array of heart racing water slides and rapids for all ages. However, if you fancy something tamer they also offer a paddling pool for children, as well as a wave pool and swimming pool.

It is estimated that approximately 28 species of resident and migratory whales and dolphins feed off the shores of Tenerife, between the neighbouring island of La Gomera. If you're interested in seeing these beautiful marine creatures in their natural habitat you will be pleased to know there are a number of tour providers that offer boat trips from Los Cristianos to see the whales and dolphins.

As the weather is superb at this time of year, it's highly recommended to take part in at least one water sport whilst staying in Los Cristianos. In the neighbouring resort of Costa Adeje you will find Parascending Tenerife, a water sports company that provides parasailing, water buggies, boat hire and jet ski safaris off the coast of Tenerife.

Tenerife is definitely one of the most visually stunning islands out of the whole of the Canaries. Plus, it is a relatively small island which means you can reach most major attractions within an hour. The Masca Valley is one of the most breath taking spots in Tenerife; so stunning it may even rival Mount Teide. The only downside of Masca is that it has to be accessed via a series of nerve-jangling roads, which are suitable for adventure seekers, but maybe not the feint hearted.

Dates for the diary

July is an especially good time to see Los Cristianos in the Canary Islands. In addition to the amazing paradise-like weather and year-round activities, a very special event occurs during this month.

This is the time of year when Los Cristianos honours the patron saint of fishermen and sailors with La Fiesta de La Virgen del Carmen. The celebration takes place on many islands and in many coastal regions in which the economy relies heavily on the sea. The highlights of this ceremonial holiday include sailors bearing a likeness to the saint of the sea and setting it afloat. Some people even follow it out into the water. The evening ends with a dazzling fireworks display.

Music fans will adore the International Jazz Festival (Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz and Mas Heineken), which lasts up to three weeks, starting from mid-July. This legendary event compromises of many large and small jazz concerts, with musicians performing from all over the world.

If you're visiting Tenerife in early July, make sure to look out for the Romeria de San Benito Abad, held every year on the first Sunday of July. The event includes major traditional festivities in San Cristobal de La Laguna.

History lovers will adore the "Battle of Santa Cruz", which is a re-enactment of Admiral Nelson's famous defeat in 1791. This historic and remarkable event takes place every year on July 25th at the Castillo de San Juan Bautista.
