August is one of the hottest months of the year in Los Cristianos. The average low temperature is 70°F (21°C) during the month of August, and the average high temperature is 83°F (29°C). Although this seems very warm, the constant ocean breeze keeps the atmosphere quite comfortable.

Average Sea Temperature

The average sea temperature during August is a very comfortable 23°C, which is absolutely perfect for swimming and other water sports. Patrons also enjoy lounging on the beach during the 13-hour days of August in Los Cristianos.

They can also take deep-sea fishing trips or see one or several of the parkszoos, and aquariums in the area. The weather is ideal for all outdoor activies.

Indoor activities are abound as well. There are several museums in the area, and no one should discount the nightlife of the island, although it is not as rowdy as other islands nearby.

Heat Waves

It has been predicted that the hottest day of the year is most like to be August 29th, where the temperature is expected to be at least 28°C. Furthermore, heat waves are not uncommon at this time of year. Most recently in 2013 Los Cristianos and the rest of Tenerife experienced a heat wave where the temperatures reached the high 30s.

As Los Cristianos is in the south of Tenerife, it is actually quite a bit hotter here compared to the north. If the heat is unbearable, make sure to stay inside, or at least in the shade and always keep hydrated and topped up with sun cream! In severe cases extreme heat can cause heat stroke and dehydration.

Cloud Cover

Back on a positive note, you won't have to worry about cloud cover affecting your holiday as the median cloud cover during August tends to vary between a mostly clear 23% and 31%. It is estimated that sky will be becoming cloudier towards the end of the month, increasing by 7% before September finally arrives.

Rain

Precipitation is also extremely low at this time of year and is only 3% likely. It is predicted that only 3mm of rainfall will occur throughout the month! Which is considerably less compared to the UK and most of mainland Europe. The driest month of the year in Los Cristianos is usually July where 0mm of rainfall is predicted.

Humidity

Many people are worried that humidity may affect their holiday, however, in Los Cristianos it is not too bad. The relative humidity typically fluctuates between a mildly humid 52% and 82%, rarely dropping below 35% or exceeding a very humid 90%. On average, the air is driest around August 2nd, at which time the relative humidity drops below a mildly humid 60% three days out of four, whilst the air is likely to be most humid around August 10th, where humidity levels could rise above 78% three days out of four.

Wind

Over the course of a typical August, wind speeds vary from 2 mph to 24 mph, rarely exceeding 30 mph, which is considered as a light to strong breeze. The highest average wind speed of 14 mph is likely to occur around August 21st, at which time the average daily maximum wind speed is 24 mph. At this time of year the wind is most often coming from the east, followed shortly by the northeast.

On the other hand, if you're here with the little ones you may want to take them to the Monkey Park, located in Los Cristianos to keep them entertained whilst on holiday. The Canary Islands offer a wonderful array of traditional culture and heritage of the native people mixed with attractions that tourists expect to see in order to be entertained and to keep them coming back year after year. Los Cristianos is an island that has found that balance between the two extremes.

The island is never more populated than it is at this point in the year.

Romeria de San Roque is another prominent annual festival held every year in Garachio, Tenerife. This spectacular event attracts crowds of pilgrims from across the island who arrive to honour the town's Patron Saint San Roque.

Last but not least, the Festival Son Latino is one of the island's most exciting Latin music events, which takes place on Playa de las Americas Beach. This highly anticipated event is a favourite for music lovers on the islands and attracts many famous groups from across the world.
