I have been in the Loire Valley 3 times in June including a 6 month stay from May to October. Throughout June period the weather was phenomenal. Mostly clear skies, warm weather, very low humidity for someone raised in Virginia, USA.
During the 6 months, May and June as described above, unusually cool and cloudy in July, August quite hot and dry, September very rainy, October cool. Many Tourangeau recommend staying in Autumn. I personally like the May to June time period.Holiday
We stayed in gites, farmhouses and small inns. I would highly recommend if traveling from town to town the small inns. Many have fine character. If you can manage a gite as a home base they can give you a good feel for the life both in the dwelling and if you had luck like we did the owner might bring you some strawberries from his field and introduce you to some local wines. During our six month holiday we stayed in a farmhouse within reach of Amboise and Tours. This was the Vouvray wine area. Try to find a place near along the north and east of this area if you like rural areas within easy reach of cities.
