Limoges lies within the Limousin region in southern-central <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />France. It enjoys a temperate climate that is heavily influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. This mean all four seasons but no real extremes of temperature and regular rainfall year-round.
Limoges is the capital of the Limousin region and is considered an up-and-coming cosmopolitan city, home to great nightlife and a wide variety of bars and restaurants. In the height of summer the streets are filled long into the night with diners enjoying the local wine and exquisite French cuisine. This region is a famous wine producing area. Drive through the valleys of southern France and you will see rows and rows of grapevines hugging the rolling hills.
Limoges has the quaint feel of a small French town but the nightlife and excitement that you get in cities. It is the birthplace of Renoir and famed for its arts and ceramics scene; it is home to the National Ceramic Museum.
Summers in Limoges are warm to hot, but in comparison to other parts in the region they are fairly mild. The surrounding area is made up almost entirely of highlands; as a result the conditions are much milder and damperthan other parts of France. The mercury will generally sit in the 20âs throughout summer with a few days reaching into the 30âs.
The average highs in June and July are about 21°C to 22°C; August is the warmest month seeing highs of 24°C before falling to 19°C in September. The lows during this period tend to sit at 11°C to 14°C, with September being the coolest month.
Autumn is mild with average highs falling to 17°C in October and 11°C in November. Average lows fall to 10°C and 7°C respectively. The clouds move in reducing sunshine levels but rainfall levels remain moderate. Early autumn has many warm, bright days but from the beginning of November youâll need to wrap up warm and ditch the sunglasses.
Winter in Limoges can be a bit gloomy. But the scenery remains beautiful and the wine world-class so it can still be a pleasant time to visit. On average, the maximums reach about 6°C to 7°C and minimums hover just above freezing - at 1°C. The weather can get much colder at higher altitudes and snowfall occurs every winter.
Rainfall is fairly consistent throughout the year, though it does pick up slightly come the winter months of December to February and is at the lowest throughout August.
Spring is quite the improvement. In Marchthe weather begins to pick up. The mercury rises to maximums of 11°C and lows of 3°C and up to 13°C and 5°C in April. By May conditions are much more enjoyable playing host of highs of 17°C and lows of 9°C.
