It is also the last month before the busy tourist peak season, which begins in May as the country enters its summer season. Therefore, holidaymakers will have a lot of freedom when touring the city as it will not be too crowded. The sun typically shines about 9 hours per day making spring-time lovely for seeing the city.

Hit the Beach

Kourion Beach

Kourion Beach is located just 17 kilometers from Limassol, just beyond the rough cliffs of the Akrotiri peninsula. Kourion is a long stretch of sand and pebble and is popular enough to warrant daily bus service and beach tavernas. However, this is more due to the Kourion ruins, an ancient archaeological site just nearby. The water itself enjoys a reputation as one of the dangerous and strongest in the area, inaccessible to all but the most experienced of swimmers so don't take unnecessary risk.

Bars and Restaurants

Four Seasons Hotel

Cypriot cuisine is a mixture of Greek and Turkish mouthwatering dishes, the best of which are usually found in family-owned tavernas or in five-star hotels. Top restaurants include the three tavernas at the Four Seasons Hotel (67/69 Amathountos St, Ag.Tychonas).

Seasons Oriental

For something different, sample the Asian cuisine at Seasons Oriental, prepared by top Hong Kong chef Kenny Keung. With its wok-fried lobster with sliced ginger, beef tenderloin strips and fresh dim sum, it's hard to argue with those who have claimed this is the best Chinese restaurant in all of Cyprus.

Things to Do in Limassol in April

Orthodox Easter

April is a relatively calm month as there are only two major events taking place throughout the month. The first is Orthodox Easter, a religious festival to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This occurs the week leading up to Easter. It is common for restaurants to offer a wider selection of vegetarian meals as a number of people abstain from eating meat during the week. Some may even fast for the entire week. On Holy Thursday, women will paint eggs red and proceed to do their Easter Baking.

On Good Friday, people carry candles and flower images of Christ through the City streets to mark Christ's death. Easter Sunday and Monday are family days and most of them will have outdoor barbeques. Music Sundays are also held throughout the month of April. Classical music is usually played in the mornings and evenings at the Municipal Gardens.

Aphrodite's rock

Alternatively, visitors can rent cars and drive the coast for some spectacular scenery. Aphrodite's Rock lies 43 kilometers west of Limassol. This is where the goddess Aphrodite is said to have emerged from the waves. Two large rocks sit in the shallow surf, and are one of Cyprus' most photographed scenes. It is said to have inspired Botticeli's famous painting, the Birth of Venus.

Driving up north to the Triodes Mountains, you will pass small villages and get a glimpse of traditional lifestyles. Stop by the Kykkos Monastery. The complex is renowned for its decorations, bright mosaics, gold icons and preserved frescoes. This monastery was founded in the 11th century by Byzantine emperor Alexis I Komnenos. Legend has it that the monks keep a painting of the Virgin Mary.
