Temperature
April sees a slight fall in temperatures in Lima, Peru but it is still warm and the average humidity increases sharply. The chances of cloud are the lowest of the year by a long way at 18 per cent. The days are getting much shorter throughout April as autumn and winter approach. Dress Code
Although the temperatures fall slightly in April, it is hardly noticeable and with the average humidity the highest of the year, the city climate can be oppressive and light clothing is essential. Lima Beaches in April
Asia beach resort, which has several beaches, is 100 kilometres and an hour by road from the capital and is a favourite with Lima's wealthy residents after huge investment was poured into the infrastructure, with apartment blocks, shops and a huge mall being added in recent years. The most popular are Asia beach and San Antonio and they get very busy between December and March.

Radisson Decapolis Miraflores
Back in the affluent and popular Miraflores district, the Radisson Decapolis Miraflores is a ten-minute walk from the beach and boardwalk, with shops, bars and restaurants galore even closer. There is a small but lovely rooftop pool that opens all year round with a popular bar giving great views (see bars and restaurants). There's also a fitness centre, lobby bar and two excellent restaurants. The 105 rooms and suites adorned with modern art with 24-hour room service available.
JW Marriott Lima
The JW Marriott Lima offers guests the security of the Marriott brand along with all the facilities they need in a central Miraflores location at Kennedy Park. The outdoor pool is a bonus and there's also a fully-equipped gym and fitness centre. The hotel's two restaurants, La Vista and JW Sushi Ceviche Lounge, offer a choice of Peruvian or Japanese sushi and there's also a bar. Many rooms have amazing Pacific views.
Costa Del Sol Wyndham Lima City
The Costa Del Sol Wyndham Lima City sits in the embassy and financial district and although it is popular with diplomats and business people it offers plenty for the visitor seeking a bit more luxury. The city's landmarks and nightlife are still close at hand and top-notch facilities include a state-of-the-art fitness centre, an outdoor pool and rooftop sundeck with breath-taking ocean views, the Peruvian-inspired cuisine of Restaurant Paprika or great cocktails and snacks in the Walak Bar.
Bars and Restaurants
Treff Pub Aleman
Once you recover from the unusual sight of Lederhosen in Lima, the German-themed Treff Pub Aleman will not disappoint. It has been going for 25 years and offers a range of German beers, plus others from across the world, renowned cocktails and a range of appetisers and snacks to soak up the alcohol. Music is retro 80s and 90s and there's a pool table to get to know the locals over a game or two.
Souk Bar at the Radisson
You can eat and drink to your heart's content at the Radisson Hotel Decapolis in Miraflores and it's the rooftop Souk Bar you should head to first. The setting on a terrace by the hotel pool is good, but its becomes spectacular with the addition of gorgeous views over the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy a craft cocktail with sushi and there are plenty of choices for non-drinkers too. The hotel's Miso restaurant and Martini Sushi bar provide good dining choices too.
Capitan Melendez
The Bar Capitan Melendez is a temple to the Pisco sour and claims to make the best ones in Lima. There are plenty of other drinks too, although most are Pisco-based and owner Roberto Melendez, whose father was a famous cocktail maker in the 1940s, comes up with new versions all the time. The atmosphere is cosy and informal and it would be wise to order some of the bar's light bites and sandwiches to go with all those cocktails.
El Tayta
El Tayta is the place to go to meet the locals and enjoy drinks, live shows and music galore in Miraflores. The old mixes with the new as Peruvian décor compete with that of a modern bar. It's a good place for groups, serves food and takes advance bookings if you want to be sure of a table. Try the house special, a Pisco Tayta, El Tayta's version of the Peruvians' favourite drink.
Things to do in Lima in April
Gamarra clothes district
For clothes shopping, there is only one place to head for in Lima and that is the Gamarra district, where up to 20,000 stalls and shops selling all sorts of garments compete for your business. The area takes up 20 blocks and is the place to buy everything from casual clothes to smart evening wear for men, women and children. There are some bigger malls in this huge shopping district. Beware of pickpockets while you're there and it's best avoided at night.
A day at the zoo
Lima has not one, but two contrasting zoos. The Parque de las Leyendas, or Legends Park, is the oldest and is built on the site of the huge Maranga Archaeological Complex, so you can combine some animal magic with a history lesson. There's even a museum with mummies. The Huachipa Zoological Park features animals from around the world and lot of play activities for children, including a petting zoo and a lagoon with pedal boats.
The President's Palace
Take a tour of the magnificent President's Palace, the Palacio de Gobierno in the historic Plaza de Armas, the site where Francisco founded Lima in 1535. This is the official home of the President and if you arrive by noon, you will see the changing of the Palace Guard. Tours of the palace must be booked in advance. While there, visit the imposing Lima Cathedral across the Plaza.
Hit the surf
Lima is the perfect spot for surfers, with many beaches enjoying great Pacific breakers. There's a big surfing culture here and it's also a good place to learn, particularly on beaches where the swell is consistent and predictable.
