Lesbos is a beautiful, Mediterranean dream in the north Aegean Sea. Also known as Lesvos in Greek, this island is rife with thousands of years of history and culture for travellers to revel in.
June marks the official beginning of summer across Europe and in Lesbos. The summer heat begins to build with temperatures rising as high as 28 degrees Celsius during the day. The low temperatures can dip down to 19 degrees Celsius. Best of all, the rainfall completely drops during the month of June. There is only an average of 6 mm of rain spread over 5 days.
No trip to Greece is complete without a trip to an ancient temple. While Lesbos is not rife with temples, you can visit the Temple of Aphrodite. While this temple is not much but ruined pillars on a foundation, the trip out to it takes you past beautiful Greek countryside before reaching your destination. Enjoy the trip out to the temple and know that you've seen the only one on the island.
If you are craving a reprieve from Greek food, stop into Galliano for an Italian meal overlooking the sea. Galliano's, opened in 2001, this restaurant specializes in traditional Italian fare like risotto, pizza, pasta and homemade desserts. Take the trip to the small village of Molivos, this restaurant is worth the trip.
Built on the bay of Kalloni, the Kalloni Bay Hotel is one of the first on the island and has a reputation as one of the finest. Built in the traditional Aegean style, this hotel has 53 rooms, half with an ocean view, and half with a view of the natural landscape. Within walking distance of a golden sand beach, there is also an adult and child's pool for guest use.
