Leptokaria has a typical Mediterranead climate with long, hot summers and short, cool winters. The resort is in the northeast of Greece in the prefecture of Pieria, and sits on foothills of Mount Olympus on the coast of the Aegean Sea. Its location on the coast with mountains behind means Leptokaria is protected from rain-bearing winds and cloudy weather, and also avoids the extreme temperatures seen further inland.
Summer, from June till September, is baking hot and flawlessly sunny. The average high temperature sits around 30°C for the entire season, with an average high of 29°C in June and September rising to a peak of 32°C in the peak months of July and August. Humidity is low and it does cool off considerably at night time, but the average low tends to be around 20°C which is still pretty hot for sleeping. Temperatures in the high 30s are not abnormal. If youâre not a heat fanatic, this is not the place for you. Luckily, the coast is usually visited by the prevailing northwest winds that provide some relief, and also create great conditions for water sports. You can also take a dip in the sea which gets into the mid 20s for most of the season. Rainfall is very low indeed and not something you really need to worry about.

Autumn, in October and November, is warm and still quite bright but becomes milder as the season progresses. October has an average high temperature of 22°C and still sees around six hours of sunshine per day. The odd shower might fall and you might need an extra layer at night, but many might find this preferable to the relentless heat of the peak summer months. The sea remains warm enough for swimming for the entire month. November is cooler with an average high of 16°C and an average low of 9°C. The sea would probably be considered by most to be a bit too col for swimming and the weather tends to be quite unpredictable, resting on the whims of the sea winds. However, it is often quite warm and still sees an average of four hours of sunshine per day, which is actually pretty good by UK standards.
Winter, from December till February, can be rather blustery and is chilly, but still sees a good helping of clear sunny days. The average high temperature drops to around 10°C for most of the season while the average low sits around 3°C. Frosts are common away from the beach and snow is not unknown. While rainstorms and grey days will occur, sunshine levels remain very good for this time of year. This is not a âwinter sunâ destination where you can sunbathe on Christmas day, but if youâre just trying to escape the endless grey of more northerly locations then Leptokaria isnât a bad choice.
Spring, from March till May, heats up rapidly and sees the return of the gloriously uninterrupted sun. The average high climbs to 14°C in March, 20°C in April and 25°C in May. Night time temperatures remain cool till May. The clouds disappear pushing sunshine levels right up and it dries up, but the sea takes a little while to get back to swimming temperatures. Cold winds can sometimes see a return of winter-like weather at the start of the season, but heat and sun are pretty much guaranteed from mid April.
