Leigh is a low lying town in the Borough of Wigan, and is situated in the North West of England. It is just a 12 mile drive to the city if Manchester. The town has four distinct seasons, differentiated by temperature and rainfall. Rainfall is a common occurrence in Leigh but does not receive great amounts of precipitation over each month. It has no extremes in temperature throughout the year. Leighâs climate is hardly warm, dry and sunny all year round (far from it) but at least it does not tend to experience any extremes in temperature.
Summer is typically the hottest time of year in Leigh when temperatures can reach up to around a pleasant 20°C, but may also drop to around a cool 11°C on colder days when the sun might tend to stay behind clouds. The sun will shine for up to 6 hours throughout the season of summer, so thereâs enough time to grab some fresh air and stroll around the outdoor and indoor markets. Leigh can receive around 65 to 80 millimetres of precipitation over each month with up to 15 days of precipitation, so prepare yourselves for drizzle on your visit. It might be a good idea to check the weather forecast before your stay and to pack an umbrella and waterproof clothing with you.
Autumn has, unsurprisingly, a cooler climate compared to the previous summer months. The season starts off relatively pleasant with temperatures hitting around 17°C in September. However, as the season progresses, the temperatures drop and the average low temperature hangs around a chilly 4°C, so residents and visitors alike are advised to wrap up warm. Autumn is the wettest season of the year with up to 84 millimetres of rain spread over 18 days of precipitation during November, the wettest month of the year in Leigh.
Winter is typically the coldest time of year in Leigh and temperatures are likely to hang around a bitter 2°C, so warm layers of clothing really are a must. Leigh also experiences (slightly) warmer temperatures such at around 7°C. With only up to two hours of sunshine each day, Leigh is quite a dark place throughout the winter season. December receives the most rainfall in winter, with 83 millimetres of rainfall over 18 days of precipitation. However, the other winter months are not quite so wet, with around 50 to 75 millimetres of precipitation each month.
Spring is the time of year when the sun begins to shine once more and stay out for longer, with 3 to 6 hours of sunlight each day. Temperatures will start to increase as springtime works its magic with the blossoming flowers, and can reach up to around a cool 16°C. However, the average low temperatures are still rather chilly, and range from 3°C to 8°C. Spring is a relatively dry time of year with precipitation levels reaching the 60 millimetres zone over around 16 days of precipitation. However, April is the driest month of the year with only 15 days of precipitation and 53 millimetres of rain throughout the 30 days.
