September is cooler than the preceding summer months but remains extremely warm in Lefkada.
Daytime temperatures still reach 25°C (77°F) and in the evenings fall no lower than a very warm 18°C (64°F).
Long hours of sunshine ensure that Lefkada is still extremely busy at this time of year.
The high number of holiday makers and the warmth mean that this may not be a good time of year to visit if you dislike large crowds or intense heat.
However, sun worshippers will definitely be in their element!
There are many beaches to choose from around the island so you will never get bored of the scenery!
The nearest beaches to Lefkada Town range from shingle and pebble to soft, golden sand. Elsewhere on the island, if you take a trip south west to the village of Aghios Nikitas then you can visit the nearby beaches of Milos and Pefkoulia.
For lovers of water sports, Vassiliki beach is situated in a beautiful bay and is famed for its excellent windsurfing. This is helped by the strong afternoon breeze, known as 'Eric'.
There are also several historic sites to see on the island, such as Santa Maura Fortress and the lighthouse near Lefkada Town, and the old olive mill at Dragano. There are many historic ruined windmills dotted on the hills around the island.
Whether you are lazing on the beach or out sightseeing, take care to avoid sunburn and sunstroke by drinking plenty of water and wearing sunscreen with a high SPF.
Nidriis famous for its yachting and sailing, and in September the Regatta takes place here. Enjoy the yacht races and take a boat tour around the area for a unique way to enjoy this spectacular event.
