October sees the tourist season begin to wind down and temperatures start to cool.
It is still pleasantly warm however, with daytime highs of 22°C (72°F). Evenings remain mild, only dropping down to around 14°C (57°F).
As there are fewer tourists at this time of year, you will be free to explore the island at a more leisurely pace than in high season.
You will also tend to find better deals on accommodation at this time of year.
There is a much greater risk of rain at this time of year, so packing a light jacket and warmer clothing for the evenings is a good idea.
You can have the best of both worlds in Lefkada in October as the days are still warm enough for lounging in the sun and cool enough to head into the hills to do some trekking.
There are several beaches near Lefkada Town that are close to amenities. The beach of Katsiki is nestled beneath some stunning white cliffs, with the famous 'dragon's head' formation at the south end.
And water sports lovers should head to Vassiliki, famed for its excellent windsurfing.
For nature lovers, you can take a short ferry ride over to neighbouring Meganisi Island, where there are many nature trails for you to hike or bicycle round.
Dotted around Lefkada there are number of old olive mills and ruined windmills to be seen, and the numerous picturesque fishing villages are perfect for wiling away warm afternoons in a taverna.
Ochi Day is celebrated all over Greece on October 28th, and commemorates the date that General Metaxis refused Hitler's request to occupy strategic parts of Greece. There are military parades in most major cities.
