April sees spring come to Lefkada, with the arrival of warmer, dryer weather and more hotels and restaurants beginning to open up again.
Daytime temperatures now reach a high of 18°C (64°F), and the sun shines for up to 8 hours. Evening temperatures only drop down to a fairly mild 10°C (50°F).
There is however a risk of rain during your stay, and as the evenings are cooler it would be a good idea to bring warmer clothing as well as beach wear.
If the weather is fair then there are some beautiful beaches in the area where you can relax in the sunshine.
A short drive south from Lefkada Town is the pretty beach of Pefkoulia, just outside the village of Aghios Nikitas. There is ample car parking if you are hiring a car, and there are two tavernas serving refreshments.
To the South of the village is Milos Beach, which is a secluded beach with spectacular views. This is accessible only by a steep, rocky footpath so not suitable for those who have trouble getting around. There are also no facilities so be sure to bring plenty of water with you.
Vassiliki Beach on the south of the island is a mecca for windsurfers during the summer months, so if you enjoy your water sports then this is the place to be.
The village itself also has a picturesque harbour surrounded with bars and tavernas where you can watch fishermen unload their catch of the day.
St. George's Day is celebrated on April 23rd all over Greece. As well as being England's patron saint, he is also the patron saint of shepherds very important to the Greeks!
