What's the weather like in Lake Garda in August

August is one of the warmest months to visit the beautiful historic towns and villages which line the shores of Lake Garda. The warm temperatures and the amount of sunshine at this time of year make it a very popular tourist destination this month.

Temperature

Although slightly cooler than July, the average temperature at the lake this month reaches a warm 23ºC (73ºF) with highs of an average 29ºC (84ºF). The lowest temperature at this time of year, including night time temperatures, is an average 19ºC (66ºF), making it the perfect month for dining outside under the stars at some of the cafés and restaurants which line the lakefront of most of the towns and villages. As is the case for most of the summer months, the temperature at the lake tends to be slightly warmer at the southern end than at the north where it is shaded by the mountains around its shores.

Sunshine Hours

The days are long on the lake at this time of year with an average of 11 hours of sunshine, meaning that visitors have plenty of time to fit in many of the activities the lake has to offer from sightseeing to water sports before the sun goes down. If you're looking for a beach-style holiday this is also a great month to just lie by the lake and enjoy the sunshine with a 58% chance of experiencing a sunny day and only a 1% chance of a cloudy day without rain.

Wind

Wind remains light on the lake this month with only a 2% chance of a windy day.

Rainfall

While July is one of the driest months on the lake, this month does see a slight increase in rainfall with 69mm of rain falling over an average of 12 days and a 21% chance of a rainy day. Nevertheless, whether you choose to spend your entire holiday by the lake or take the opportunity to tour Italy, this is an ideal time to visit as the entire country basks in the warmth of the summer months.

The real treat in August is to wander around the beautiful shaded landscaped gardens with their own groves of fresh citrus fruits, olive trees and rare plants.

Mountain Bike

Those who want to explore the area under their own steam should rent a mountain bike and explore the numerous trails that crisscross the Valtenesi region on the western shore of the lake from Desenzano to Salò and beyond.
